Dear Muskego Lakes Families,
It is hard to believe it is December already!!!! This school year seems to be flying by! We are so proud of the students and all of their hard work so far this year!!!
We wanted to also share with you a few celebrations so far from this school year:
- We have 35+ clubs/co-curriculars for students to participate in this year!
- We have an in-house mental health counselor at Muskego Lakes this year, working with students to access therapy while here at school.
- Our D/F list for Quarter 1 is smaller than it has ever been, meaning more of our students than ever before are demonstrating proficiency on course objectives.
- Our staff have written 1,500 positive notes home to students so far this year.
- Students in 5th-8th grade learn self-regulation, self-awareness, and coping strategies for stress through PE classes.
- Our students in band finally got to be back performing at the PAC this week for the MLMS Winter Band Concert.
- We had three student finalists in the Muskego Lions Club Peace Poster Contest.
- We are proud of the work we do with our community partners, Tudor Oaks, connecting students with the residents to strengthen generational connections.
- We have intramural sports starting up again this year over lunch/recess this coming week.
- We've had over 100 students receive recognition so far this year in grade levels, encore classes, and more.
- 100% of students created Google Sites to design learner profiles, reflecting on their strengths, personality, passions, and learning style.
- Academic and Career Planning is underway with students exploring career clusters in 6th-8th grade.
- We have 25+ students involved in our Staff-Student Mentor program.
While learning is our #1 priority at Muskego Lakes, we have so much more to be proud of as a school community. Thank you for the many ways you continue to partner with us and share your ideas with us to help us do even better for our students.
With love,
Rachel Rydzewski & Nancy Pasch

Muskego Lakes Parent Satisfaction Survey
If you haven't yet, please take a few minutes to complete the Muskego Lakes Parent/Family Satisfaction Survey using the following link.
Muskego Lakes Middle School– https://rezed.io/1N9DQ6
The survey will remain open through December 17th.
Thank you for your commitment to our District’s success. And thanks for all the ways you help us keep Muskego Lakes a premier middle school! We are grateful for your support, for the ideas you bring forward to help us improve, and that you trust us as we walk alongside your children here at school each day.
Student Data Trackers at Muskego Lakes
In each course at Muskego Lakes, there are key standards of focus that our teachers ensure students understand by the end of the school year. So, students are empowered to track their progress on those key standards.
If you haven't yet seen your child's Standards of Focus Tracker (or SOF tracker), we highly recommended asking to take a look. You'll get to see how your child is progressing on key standards, and you'll get to celebrate the growth that you see!

8th Grade Pre-ACT Reports
8th Grade Pre-ACT Information
We just recently received the Pre-ACT results for our 8th graders. Our teachers will be going through the results in their classes with students. This will allow students to conduct an error analysis and ask questions. We will be mailing out student results in the next few weeks as well.
Saving Money and Getting the Most Out Of Your Lunch Account Balance
The Offer Versus Serve (OVS) lunch plan aims to reduce food waste and allow students to choose the foods they want to eat from the hot lunch menu. This program also guidelines how students' meals can be reimbursable or free. When students, families, and cafeteria staff understand OVS, lunch lines move smoothly, allowing students to make the most of the lunch break and enjoy the wholesome and appealing foods they are served. It also helps reduce overall food costs and saves families money under current lunch program guidelines.
The OVS program dictates that schools must offer all five food components in at least the minimum required quantities:
- A food component is one of five required food groups in reimbursable lunches. These are meats/meat alternates, grains, fruits, vegetables, and fluid milk*.
- A food item is a specific food offered within the five food components. For example, spaghetti (whole grain-rich pasta with tomato sauce) is one food item that contains both a grain and a vegetable component.
Under OVS, students must select three meal components to ensure they get the nutritional benefits of a meal. One of these three must be a fruit or vegetable.
- If a student's meal from hot lunch meets these requirements, the meal is reimbursable or free.
- If the students' meal doesn't meet these requirements, the student will be charged for the items.
- Any a la carte options offered are not part of the published lunch menu, do not qualify for OVS, and are marked as such and charged individually.
If your child(ren) takes advantage of this program and is mindful of the number of a la carte options they purchase daily, your child's account balance will last longer.
