As I shared earlier this school year, we have started on the journey of implementing our Portrait of a Graduate. The Portrait of a Graduate is a tool for our teachers and students, and also for our parents. On our new website, you find the interactive web tool we created for our parents and community to use our portrait. ATTENTION: Returning Students 2023-2024
Spaulding School hosted a Family Fun Night last week. Hundreds of students and family members enjoyed various activities including gym art, cup stacking, a book fair, planting flowers, maker space, and board games. Several families also won large baskets filled with goodies.
Dr. Glickley was mystery reader for Ms. Parks class in celebration of Perry’s birthday - their class pet.
Check out these amazing habitat projects! Students researched together to find a description, location, climate, plants, animals, and interesting facts about their habitat. Then they made these awesome creations and presented them to the class. So much fun!
Viking Games
The April edition of the Spaulding School Viking Games featured classes competing against each other in a scooter relay challenge. Even a few teachers competed!
Mrs. Rasmussen's class (pictured above) won the second grade trophy.
Viking Middle School enjoyed an entertaining K9 presentation by Tops in Grayslake featuring Gurnee Police Officer Hitzelburger and his amazing dog Hawk.
Gurnee Park District
June 12 – August 11 Summer Camp
Gurnee Park District provides summer fun options for ages 3 – 16. All camps offer a wide variety of activities including sports, crafts, games, and special interests. Choose the best schedule for you and your family!
May 7 – FREE, GO Gurnee Dog Walking Event at Betty Russell Park
Hit the trail with your pet at this GO GURNEE event. Each family will receive a pet-friendly goody bag!
Special guests will include members from the non-profit animal rescue, Reach Rescue, and our sponsors, Central Bark, and Sweet Water Homes.
May 20 – Park Beautification Day
Volunteer with your classmates, coworkers, family members, or friends! We will be planting flowers, mulching, and picking up branches/trash at four Gurnee park locations. Please plan to dress in layers based on the weather - long pants, old sneakers/shoes, gardening style gloves, etc. Additional tools and supplies will be provided. All ages welcome! Volunteer online today!

11th Annual Outrun the Cops
The Gurnee Fraternal Order of Police Social Lodge is hosting their 11th annual Outrun the Cops!
It is a great event and all proceeds will go to the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center.
The Lake County Fire Chiefs and Police Chiefs associations, along with Gurnee Mills Mall is hosting a First Responder Expo next month, and we thought it would be a great event for the kids! Right now over 30 agencies are attending, there will be some fire demos, as well as a K9 demo at the event! The expo is very interactive and will have a ton of things for the kids!
