Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
We hope you all are staying safe and warm as you head into the weekend! We know these temperatures make it difficult for our young people to want to get to school, but we’re hoping that with the start of a new quarter/semester next week, our students will be ready for a reset!
A positive aspect about the start of a new quarter/semester is that it helps us view our school year as an opportunity to “start over”. Students may be changing classes as they have wrapped up their semester elective courses. They may also have the opportunity to refocus on school as they transition into the new quarter as they received their second semester schedules today during their Advisory Bell. Focusing on the semester change is also a way to encourage our young people by showing them that the school year is half over and that they are almost there!
However we have to frame this in the thoughts of our students, please help us encourage them to keep moving forward. The winter months are typically difficult for students, so thank you for helping us by getting them to school and ready to engage in learning.
As you are perusing the newsletter, take a moment to review the information about our Mock Trial Team. They continue to compete against some difficult competition and are doing very well. We are proud of the work the students and Mr. Prindle are putting into the program!
Make sure you check out all of the important events that will be taking place on February 7, 2024. We will have our transition fair, parent teacher conferences, and the mandatory CCP student/parent information night. Please mark your calendars for all of these important meetings and use the sign up link (below) to register for the parent teacher conferences.
We wish our students a restful three-day weekend and look forward to seeing them back for the second semester on Tuesday, January 16th.
In service to our Bulldogs.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
- BHS February 7, 2024 Transition Fair
- Parents must drop off students in the drop off line. We are now blocking the crosswalk between the sidewalk and the front of our building as we are concerned about our students' safety. When cars cut through the area between the sidewalk and the front of the building after we've cleared students through the main crosswalk on Bulldog Way, our students are put into a very dangerous situation. Thank you for following the drop off expectations that were communicated in the September 1, 2023 edition of The BHS Express.

2024-25 FAFSA Update:
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students entering or attending college for the 2024-25 academic year has undergone many changes, been updated for 2024, and is currently having a "soft launch". The website is up and running, but will be temporarily shut down occasionally for maintenance and updates. Any student that is thinking about attending any type of education/training after high school should complete the FAFSA - technical school, trade school, community college, public university, or private university. The FAFSA is what determines your eligibility for student loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships - thus, it is VERY important that you complete and submit it. Keep in mind, all students are at least eligible for student loans! We will continue to share information and helpful resources as they are received.
Here is the link to a short video that explains what the FAFSA is: What is FAFSA?
We have also included the link to a slightly lengthier video that explains the entire FAFSA application process and answers many of your questions: The 2024-2025 Financial Aid Process
The student, as well as the parents/guardians must have their own FSA ID to begin the FAFSA application process. Here is the link to create your FSA ID: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
Lastly, here is the link to begin your FAFSA application: StudentAid.Gov
Updated Scholarship List:
Another option to look at opportunities for additional funding for college is by applying for scholarships. BHS Guidance updates this list regularly as new scholarships are shared with us. Here is a link to the most recent list that is shared with all seniors: Scholarship List Updated 1/5/2024
