Weekly Update ~ February 16, 2016
Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
So now that we have new standards for math, English language arts, social emotional learning, science, and physical education, it's time for social studies!
The College, Career and Civic Life Framework was developed in 2013 by a group of social studies experts, curriculum specialists, teachers and scholars from across the nation to organize and share the vision for social studies education K-12, commonly referred to as the C3 Framework. It is available for a free PDF download to learn more about their vision and organization of the learning objectives.
Illinois then created a separate team of teachers and school administrators who utilized the C3 framework to create the updated IL Social Studies standards. The committee's recommendations were presented to the Board of Education on June 17th, 2015, were voted for adoption on December 16th, 2015 and posted on the ISBE website December 23rd.
More information about our Oak Grove transition to the updated Social Studies standards coming soon.

Wrestling News
In the final home meet of the season, the Oak Grove Eagles came to wrestle versus a much larger Palombi squad. Diego Norena continued to add to his pin count and stuck his opponent in the 2nd period to improve his varsity record to 6-2. Ian Riley, honored on 8th Grade Appreciation Night, did not disappoint. Ian pinned his opponent quickly in the 2nd period, bringing his record to 10-5. Chase Baczek also worked hard to achieve a pin in the 2nd after a scoreless 1st period.
In the Exhibition matches, Oscar Butler also worked hard after a 1st match loss to pin his opponent in the 1st period. Max Grambo wrestled a tough match to win 8-0, earning his first victory of the season.
The Oak Grove Eagles will face off against Carl Sandburg Middle School in Mundelein this Thursday, February 18th, at 4:00 PM. Come out to show your support.
Student Council Dance
The Student Council is hosting a Junior High dance this Friday, February 19 from 6:30-8:30. Admission is canned or boxed food for our local food pantry. Bring money if you plan on purchasing concession and/ or raffle tickets. Please make sure to not drop off before 6:30 and to pick up at 8:30 by the junior high gym doors.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on Thursday, March 10th from 1:00 pm to 8:30 pm. PT ConferenceMaker allows parents to schedule conferences online. The system will be open to parents from 9:00 am on Monday, Feb. 29th until noon on Wednesday, March. 9th.
To sign up for conferences, you can go to our web site, or you can go directly to www.ptconferencemaker.com/og (the system will not open until 9:00 am on 2/29). You will need the student number and 4-digit password for any student you want to create a conference for.
Since teachers in grades 5-8 work with every student in the grade level, the number of available time slots are limited. We ask that if you have students in these grades, please only sign up for a conference time if you have a concern. Thank you!
