Halloween Grace & Courtesy
October
Children are enjoying the Halloween season at LHMS. We are singing Halloween songs, reading Halloween books and working with Halloween-themed lessons throughout the classroom.
Let's make Halloween even better with grace and courtesy. In the Oak Room, we are pretending we are trick-or-treating and practicing the appropriate Halloween etiquette.
Here are some points we practice:
- We only walk on sidewalks, not through yards or flower beds.
- We never go to a house with the lights off.
- If the porch light is on, we knock or ring the doorbell once and wait a bit. We don’t keep knocking or ringing the doorbell. If no one answers, we go to the next house. We don’t try to peek into the house.
- When someone answers the door, we smile and say, “Trick-or-treat!”
- If the person holds out a candy bowl or bag, we take only one piece of candy unless the person says we may take more.
- We always say, “Thank you,” after we are given a treat. Even if we don’t like the candy, we still say, “Thank you.” We don’t say that we don’t like the candy.
- It’s always nice to say, “Happy Halloween!” at the end.
Please see our favorite Halloween songs below...
Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate
5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate
The first one said, “Oh my it’s getting late!”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air!”
The third one said, “But I don’t care!”
The fourth one said, “Let’s run, and run, and run!”
The fifth one said, “I’m ready for some fun!”
Oohh went the wind and out went the light.
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!
I’m Hiding
(cover eyes)
I’m hiding. I’m hiding. I’m hiding away from you.
You can’t see me. You can’t find me.
You’ll be sorry if you do…Boo!
What Will You Be?!
(encourage call and response)
What will you be? What will you be?
What will you be on Halloween?
I’ll be a (firefighter). I’ll be a (firefighter).
I’ll be a (firefighter) on Halloween.
I’ll Scare Some Folks on Halloween Night
(one child at a time hide behind a shelf)
I’ll scare some folks on Halloween night and this is what I’ll do…
I’ll run and hide behind the fence and then I’ll shout, “Boo!”
Dingle Dangle Scarecrow
When all the cows were sleeping and the sun has gone to bed
Up jumped the scarecrow and this is what he said…
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow with a flippy floppy hat.
I can shake my hands like this and shake my feet like that.”
When all the hens were roosting and the moon behind a cloud
Up jumped the scarecrow and shouted very loud…
When the dogs were in the kennel and the doves were in the loft
Up jumped the scarecrow and whispered very soft…
