Some thoughts for the starting school year

Message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents/Guardians:
November is a month of gratitude. On November 11, we will show our gratitude for the service of our Veterans as we celebrate Veterans Day through the many special programs held in our schools. It is important for our students to take time during this day to recognize and honor Veterans for their service to our country.
This month, we also have the opportunity to show gratitude for our family and friends as we celebrate Thanksgiving. Our Board of Education, staff, and students are thankful for the support of our parents and community. We will not have classes on November 23-25. Enjoy this break with your families.
Our schools will be closed on Tuesday, November 8, for Election Day since our schools are used for polling locations. Our staff will be involved in professional development activities that help support all we do in and out of the classroom each day for our students.
Sincerely,
Melissa Kircher
Superintendent
Bethel's Field of Flags Honors Vets
To honor our Veterans, the local Kiwanis Club has installed a Field of Honor with flags displayed to honor past and present service members. Bethel's Field of Flags is located just west of Bethel-Tate Middle School on State Route 125.
The Bethel-Tate administrative staff purchased a flag to display in honor of Bethel-Tate High School assistant principal Thomas Haas who served in the United States Air Force from 2004-2008 as an Avionics Technician. Thank you, Mr. Haas for your service!
William Bick Primary to Honor Vets
The William Bick Primary staff and students are honoring local Veterans on Friday, November 11. The Veterans will be treated to a light breakfast followed by a patriotic program. Bick's 2nd grade students are singing, and each Veteran in attendance will stand and be recognized as their military branch song is played.
"The names of family members who have served or are currently serving in the military will be written on red, white, and blue stars and on an American flag created by the students that will be displayed in the gymnasium," said William Bick Principal Greg Chandler.
According to Mr. Chandler, the students will have a penny war drive on the days leading up to November 11 with all of the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Ebon Hill Celebrates Oktoberfest
Ebon C. Hill had its first Oktoberfest since the pandemic. The PTO worked diligently for two months to organized this wonderful festival. Many of the teachers and staff had games for the children to play. Our gifted program organized an arcade room for children to play in and there was a dunking booth for even more entertainment. Students enjoyed the opportunity to dunk several Hill staff: Mrs. Sies, Mrs. Jenike, Mrs. Scheadler, and Mr. MacLeod.
"It was perfect weather for a perfect night! Thank you Bethel for all your support," shared Principal Robert MacLeod.

Bethel-Tate Middle School Celebrates Red Ribbon Week with Poster Contest
Red Ribbon Week is the nation's largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign. This year, Red Ribbon Week took place from October 23 through 31. Bethel-Tate Middle School held a poster contest during the week. Congrats to Kayley who used her artistic talent to design this awesome drug-free poster for Red Ribbon Week.
Bethel-Tate High School Students Explore Passion Projects
At Bethel-Tate High School, our students focus on more than just academics. On Monday, October 31, BTHS held its first Passion Project afternoon.
Students spent two hours focused on their personal passions: creative writing, sports, jewelry making, games, puzzles, and more. This fun afternoon allowed our students and faculty to connect to each other and our school in a new and unique way. The skills the faculty are focusing on are those that emphasize self-awareness, social awareness, relationship building, and critical thinking.
"The passion project is projected to occur every other month and will offer our students Authentic Life Experiences and allow them an opportunity to take a break from core subjects and focus instead on the new Ohio Social Emotional Learning Standards (SEL), and on gaining insight into various skills, hobbies, and interests and connecting to their school, peers, and teachers in a different way," shared BTHS Principal George Sturgeon.
