G W Harby Junior High - February 9th, 2024
Congratulations to Mrs. Johns! Alvin ISD's Secondary Counselor of the Year!
The Education Foundation Turtle Race is tomorrow!
The RLA Interim & Writing tests will be this Wednesday, February 14th
All grade levels will be taking their Reading and Language Arts Interim assessment and completing a Writing Assessment on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024. Harby Jr High will be a "Closed Campus" due to these assessments taking the entirety of the day. This is an important assessment as we use this data to map our students academic growth and develop systems to support their educational trajectory.
No School on Friday, February 16th, 2024
There will be no school on this coming Friday, February 16th, 2024. Staff will be participating in Professional Development. Students will also have Monday, February 19th, 2024 in observance of Presidents Day. We hope everyone enjoys their four day weekend!
8th grade Course selection for High School
The high school counselors meet with all 8th graders today to help them pick their classes for freshman year. Please speak with your student and sign their course card so they can return it as soon as possible. Some elective classes fill up quickly and turning in a course card late might result in not getting your first choice elective.

Building Evacuation earlier this week
On Wednesday of this week, we evacuated the building at 8:20 am out of an abundance of caution due to a suspicious odor. The district maintenance staff and the Fire Marshal arrived quickly on site to access the situation. Once we received the "All Clear" we re-entered the building. The impact on instruction was minimal and students who hadn't eaten breakfast were still able to eat.
Notification of Sampling for Lead in Drinking Water
We are sharing information with you about our participation in a program that helps us test for lead in the drinking water at all school campuses. This program is provided by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) Lead Testing in School and Child Care Program (LTSCC). It is a voluntary statewide program that offers free training and guidance on how to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water where children are cared for. Financial support is made possible by the TCEQ and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Results will be available on TCEQ’s LTSCC Program webpage at texasleadtesting.org. For more information about the LTSCC Program, you can visit the program webpage, email info@txleadtesting.org , or call the helpline at (737) 276‐1987.
