Dear FMS Staff,
Get ready, get set, it's almost GO TIME! Our House of Hornets are almost ready to go! Thank you to the students and staff that were able to help with the organization. Below are the big ideas and we will go more in-depth at our back to school PD.
Thanks so much and have an awesome day!

The WHY of PBIS and the House System
The WHY of PBIS:
Physical and emotional safety so that our students can thrive at high levels.
The WHY of Houses:
Develop a system where EVERY student has a place to belong, be supported and be successful.
Foundational Concepts we Will Address: Empathy and Empowerment to live our mission and vision.
What is a House System Anyway???
Below are a few resources to help get a big picture idea of a house system:
How Will Houses Be Organized?
We will have 8 houses that are comprised of one class of 6th, one class of 7th and one class of 8th graders. They will be the advisory (homeroom 2nd hour) class. There will be a total of 64-70 students per house, with 4-6 staff.
How Will Houses Earn and Track Points?
Ways to Earn Points-Details to Follow
Activity Nights
Spirit Week
Pack the House
House competitions during assemblies
Monthly attendance
Hornet Bucks
Grades
Poster contest
Student Led Conferences
Adopt-A-Spot
Dress Code (lose points)
Behavior Referral (lose points)
Tracking Points?
We will develop an easy to manage system to track points through Google. We will also display house information in the front trophy case/bulletin board.
What Incentives can Houses Earn?
There will be a House Trophy of Awesomeness that will be awarded to the house with the highest total points at the end of the year, but we will reward houses as they hit milestone points. Details to follow, but here are sample incentives. (these will replace attendance incentives/behavior incentives/perfect attendance incentives/etc)
House of Hornet SWAG!
Tech Time
Trip to Park
Pizza Party
And the list will continue to grow!
What do the 1st Two Days Look Like?
Day 1 will start in a welcome back assembly with our typical welcome (ie Houf and Hogan shenanigans) and then the sorting ceremony. We then will head to house headquarters for team building and building an understanding of the house system (you will be provided lesson plans). We will have a bell schedule, but only rotate as a house. Again, you will get the details once they are finalized. The remainder of the day will be a rotation through PBIS stations and team building. Day 2 will begin at house headquarters, with similar rotations. We will have one session as an eclipse pre-lesson and then end in the gym with a culminating parade of houses.
When Will I Find Out My House?
The BIG announcement will happen at the sorting ceremony at the first day assembly! WOOT! WOOT!
What are the Houses I Could be Placed In?
We are ALL Hornets!
Something that is a foundation of the house system is that we are several teams that share a common foundation and goal. Below are the house names, in different languages from different cultures. The names all have the same meaning: HORNET! Each house will learn more about their own culture that is unique as well as demonstrate the character trait that is listed. Each house will also have an adopt-a-spot around the school to help maintain. When you are in your houses the first day, you will work with the students to develop a house motto, flag, norms of the house and choose a community organization to support.
