Matador Theatre has begun UIL One-Act Play competition with a play titled Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuka. Following a stellar performance at the UIL Zone Contest on 2/28, Matador Theatre is advancing to the second round! They also earned several individual accolades. They will now perform in District One-Act Play contest at Veteran's Memorial H.S. on Saturday, 3/5. Congratulations!!!

This play is an entrancing adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. Separated from his mother, a young refugee called Anon journeys through the United States, encountering a wide variety of people -- some kind, some dangerous and cruel -- as he searches for his family. Good luck to Matador Theatre as they continue the contest season!

The SHS Starsteppers brought home top honors at the Crowd Pleasers "Austin Showcase" on 2/26. Awards included:

The SHS Matador Winterguards competed at a TECA (Texas Educational Colorguard Association) contest on 2/19 and had great success! The Varsity Winterguard earned 3rd place in the Scholastic AA division and the JV Winterguard earned 2nd place in Novice class.

The Matador Band program will host two TECA contests in Seguin. On March 5 will be the Seguin HS TECA contest and on 3/26 will be the TECA State Winterguard Championships. Come out and watch these talented groups perform!! Best of luck to the Matador Colorguard Program!!

Tresalyn Roberts, 12th grade student, recently had an artwork selected by TAEA (Texas Art Educators Association) for the Youth Art Month Capitol Show. The display will be at the Bullock Museum in Austin as part of a display featuring approximately 100 artworks from selected students across the state of Texas. High School Art students recently participated in VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event). Students are scored on a rubric scale of 1 - 4 (4 being the highest possible score). Numerous students earned high honors! This list of students represents students that earned one of the top two ratings. Note that Middle School students will have the opportunity to enter Jr. VASE next month.

On February 25 - 26, the UIL State Mariachi Festival was hosted at the Seguin HS Performing Arts Center. This event brought in nearly 60 participating schools from around the state and early 2,500 spectators and participants. This event also included a spectacular performance from our own Mariachi Matador.

A big thank you to the Seguin HS fine arts staff, administration, boosters, and all of the support team that worked to make this event possible for the second consecutive year in Seguin.

High School students participated in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest on 2/26 and earned several accolades. The students listed below earned top ratings including several state advancements. Congratulations to all!!

Many activities occurred recently including enrichment clinics, Pre-UIL evaluations, and recruitment events for next year.
