Pecatonica #321 Curriculum Corner

The beginning of the school year is rapidly approaching, and our district is kicking it into high gear in preparation for the return of our students and teachers. We are so excited for everyone to return and are ready to hit the ground running on August 22. We will see you then!

Although most students and teachers have been out of the buildings, the summer work crew has been hard at work. All summer long they have been working tirelessly cleaning, waxing, painting, and getting all of the buildings, offices, and classrooms ready to go to make sure everyone has a clean, safe place to make learning happen. Thank you to the custodians and our summer work crew for all the things they do!

PCUSD recently hired Jana Loofboro as the new Director of Student Services. This is a new position that oversees the special education needs throughout the district. Ms. Loofboro writes:

Greetings Pecatonica Staff and Families,

My name is Jana Loofboro and I am the Director of Student Services here in Pecatonica. This will be my 15th year in education and my first year as an administrator. I graduated in May of 2022 with my Masters in Educational Leadership and Administration and also have a Masters in Differentiated Instruction. During my 15 years in education, most of them have been as a special educator. I have taught in many different settings including resource, instructional, self-contained as well as co-teaching. I have taught in the Belvidere School District as well as in Rockford Public Schools. Prior to coming to Pecatonica, I spent the last 4 years as a Special Education Procedural Coach for Rockford. As a procedural coach, I had many similar duties to that of the role I will be playing here in Pecatonica. I am looking forward to working with and getting to know you and am so excited to be a part of the team in Pecatonica. Go Indians!

We are excited for the addition of Ms. Loofboro to the Pecatonica team and look forward to all of her contributions that will benefit the students of PCUSD! Welcome Aboard!

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year! On Thursday, August 18th we will hold an open house from 6pm to 7pm. Students will have opportunity to walk through their schedule and meet their teachers. Students can also drop off their supplies to their locker. Please print off/write down your child's schedule closer to the 18th for the most accurate schedule and locker assignment. IF locker assignments do not appear we will have a list of locker assignments posted.

A school map will be provided as we have some new staff and teacher's that have relocated their classrooms.

***RETURNING STUDENTS WILL GET THEIR CHROMEBOOKS ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL***

Reminder the first day of school is the following Monday, August 22nd.

We are planning two different opportunities for 5th grade students and parents to view our presentation and pick up their Chromebook.

A parent/guardian must attend the meeting with their student.

Day & Time: 1PM on Tuesday, August 9th @ PECATONICA HIGH SCHOOL OR 6PM on Tuesday, August 9th @ PECATONICA HIGH SCHOOL.

Students and a parent only need to attend one of the sessions. If you can not make one of those times please email timking@pecschools.com.

The presentation and issuing of the Chromebooks should take under an hour.

Freshman Orientation and Chromebook handout is scheduled for Tuesday August 16 at 6:00 PM in the High School Commons. All returning students will receive their chromebooks the first day of school. See you then!
