MESSAGE FROM CROCKER'S PRINCIPAL
Thank you for being patient during this rainy season at pick up and drop off. As a reminder, please do not cut across lanes or directly through the middle of the pick up area, as it creates a safety issue. The lanes with a red end allow you to wait for your child, then the lane to your immediate left/right (depending on the lane) allow you to move through with traffic. Please review the diagram below.
AMC 8 and Math Counts are available to students! Math teachers have been announcing to each of their classes that Crocker will be hosting both the AMC 8 competition and Math Counts competition on Thursday, January 19th (AMC 8) and Thursday, January 26th (Math Counts) immediately after school. Please have your student contact Mr. Kittredge (in person) if they would like to participate in either or both. The first rounds will likely take 1 to 1 1/2 hours. This was the most flexible time, please help your student plan accordingly if they choose to participate.
Also, please do not drop off fast-food for your students (or their friends). While we understand it can be difficult to balance all the things required to even get out of the house in the morning, having a nutritious lunch helps students stay focused for the rest of the day. A high sugar, carb, or otherwise food, often creates an energy crash for middle schoolers which makes it hard for students to remain focused on their learning after lunch. To help, we do offer healthy and free lunch for all students (see below for more details).
As you know, middle school students are dynamic! They change quickly, mature in many ways, and are always trying to figure things out. This certainly gives us (the adults in their lives) a great opportunity to engage with them about growing up-to offer suggestions, helpful ways to solve problems, and best of all, simply, listen. If you need any support with this, feel free to reach out to Ms. Slater.
In partnership,
Keith J. Rocha, Principal and Proud Crocker Viking
Important Update: Superintendent Coffee Chat Rescheduled
MESSAGE FROM THE COUNSELOR
Crocker is hosting a 100th-day-of-school event on February 7th. We are wondering if parents would like to run booths that day during lunch (12:40-1:20). We are hoping to have at least four activities that day and would need about 8-10 volunteers. Examples of booths are making trail mix where there are ten ingredients and ten of each are used, 100 piece cereal necklace, etc. If you are interested in helping out, please email Mrs. Slater at bslater@hcsdk8.org.
Thank you!
PARENT CONFERENCES
As you may remember from the fall, in middle school, our parent conferences scheduled for January 30th-February 3rd may look a little different than you may have experienced in elementary school. Because teachers have 120+ students at the middle school, please know that they will need to prioritize the parents/students with the most need during the limited time available. Teachers will reach out directly to those families. However, if you do not receive an email, but are still interested in participating in the OPTIONAL needs-based parent-teacher conferences, please reach out to your student’s teachers directly. As a reminder, we will run an early dismissal schedule on these days with students being excused at 2:16pm. Thank you for your understanding.
