Cameras Installed on School Buses
As part of our district’s process to upgrade and improve security for our students and staff, cameras have been installed on some district buses and are being activated next week. Cameras on our school buses provide all-around enhanced safety and security. In addition to monitoring driver and student behavior inside the bus, cameras will help to hold other motorists accountable while buses are stopped for students to get on and off.
We know that our community cares as deeply about the safety and well-being of our students as we do. We are proud to join the many other school districts in Colorado in using this technology as an added measure to ensure that our students and community are safe.
If you have any questions please contact the Weld RE-4 Transportation Department at 970-686-8060.

Hawk Cage - Volunteers Needed
We are excited to again request your help for our Hawk Cage unit. You may have recently received a similar request from Mr. Luce for his classes, but Mrs. Alvine’s and Ms. Johnson’s are on a different schedule this year, and we need your help too! Once again, students will be presenting an idea that they have been working on to improve the community. We have now insisted that students design a project that could help those in need.
We have asked students to think small: stay realistic, and think about what they could actually carry out as 8th graders. Not all our students will carry their idea out, but some are excitedly hoping to do so.
Presentations will be given in Language Arts classes throughout the day on Wednesday, March 20, Thursday, March 21, and Friday, March 22.
We need volunteers from our community to serve as panelists who can offer feedback as students present their ideas. We hope you can offer encouragement where they have done well, while also helping them be realistic and offering critiques based on a real-world perspective on what you as an actual person in the community would expect if you were to participate in the events you hear being described. You will then give feedback on whether you would recommend students actually carry their idea out, or whether they need to iron out some more details first. In each class period you volunteer, you will hear and offer feedback on three or four presentations.
This year’s presentations range from the need for a traffic light at a particular intersection in town, to a dog-walking business to fund donations to a pet shelter, to a ping pong tournament to raise donations for cancer research, and more.
If you would like to sign up to be a panelist for our students, please email heidi.johnson@weldre4.org to indicate what day(s) and hour(s) you would like to come in. If you have a student in one of our classes, we ask that you NOT serve as a panelist for your own student, since they will likely have already heard your perspective, but we are happy to sign you up for your student’s class when they are not presenting themselves if you indicate which teacher’s class you would like to volunteer in.
You can see the schedule here to find when we still need your help. As always, please email with any questions!
