Dear Families,

Our school community is focusing on the character trait of Gratitude. Did you know that practicing gratitude each day improves your mental and emotional well being? Our JA students and staff are practicing and also catching each other in moments of showing gratitude! Students can earn classroom PAWS, individual PAWS, and Gratitude PAWS!

The bulletin board above shows this month's trait and the prizes involved! When a student receives a Gratitude PAW, they can place their PAW in one of the envelopes of the prize they would like to win! The names are drawn at the end of each month. This month the prizes are BOOKS (the greatest prize ever, am I right?)

And DON"t forget, tomorrow is Friday Fan Day! All staff, volunteers, and students are invited to wear their favorite sports team t-shirt, sweatshirt, or jersey!

• We are still diligent in wearing the appropriate masks at school to keep our community safe. The following are not face coverings because they allow droplets to be released: a covering that incorporates a valve that is designed to facilitate easy exhalation, mesh masks, lace masks or other coverings with openings, holes, visible gaps in the design or material, or vents. Please call the office if you have questions.

• OBOB - calling all 3rd through 5th graders! Would you like to be a part of an Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) team? If so, sign up in the office. Parents - would you like to coach a team or be the JA OBOB Coordinator? Contact Anita at lefflera@newberg.k12.or.us

• Hearing Screenings - Our Speech Therapy team will be providing hearing screenings to all kindergarten, first, and second grade elementary students on December 3rd. The hearing screening will consist of a pure tone screening using headphones in a quiet separate location within the school building. The total screen takes approximately 3-5 minutes per student. If your child does not pass the hearing screening, we will do a second screening after a couple weeks. If they do not pass the hearing screening a second time, we will contact you about recommended next steps. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

• Feed the Monster! Bring in your extra Halloween candy and we will trade it in for money for the school. Deadline: Nov. 10th

Hello Joan Austin Parents and Caregivers!

Our next parent meeting is Tuesday, November 16th at 7:00pm. We meet in the JA cafeteria. We will be practicing social distancing and wearing masks. Adults do not need to be vaccinated to attend!
