Corona High School - A Tradition of Excellence Since 1896
Greetings Panther Families!
What another great week at Corona High School! This week we celebrated student academics at our Academic Awards Night, athletics teams are keeping up the great competition, and our activities continue getting our students engaged and connected through our Club Rush event. Please continue encouraging students to get involved in school activities outside of the classroom to enrich their high school experience.
On September 11th the nation recognized Patriot Day in honor of the victims of the attacks 9/11. It was a day to remember the sacrifices of so many Americans and the lives lost. As we reflect, let us continue to honor the victims and thank those that risk their lives to keep us safe.
Now, enjoy your Panther Prowl for September 14, 2018. RAWR!!!
Proudly,
Antonio Gonzalez, Ed.D.,
Principal

ASB Cards
A great way for your child to have a better high school experience is by getting him/her involved in any of extracurricular activities and events. An ASB card provides opportunities throughout the year for our students get involved while saving money. This little card can very well end up saving $$$ over the course of the year and can even pay for itself after only a few uses. Here are some of the perks:
- FREE admission to ALL home sporting events, excluding CIF playoffs (these are never free); that's a savings of at least $125
- Discounts on ALL dances and events (including the Performing Arts); that's another savings of at least $30
- FREE athletic patches and inserts (patches cost $20 without an ASB card and inserts cost $5); that's a potential savings of at least $25
- FREE giveaways on GOT ASB? Days (last Friday students received a free t-shirt)
- ASB Cards can be purchased for $40 in the Student Store, but students receive benefits valued at approximately $200 (maybe even more as new activities get added to the calendar throughout the year)
Athletics
- Football: We wrapped up our non-league schedule on September 13th at Norte Vista High School with a record of 2-3. After next week's bye, we will begin Big VIII League play at Roosevelt High School on September 28th.
- Girls Golf: Shout out to our girls golf team who lost a very close match yesterday to Centennial High School, but in the process the entire team played to their personal best led by Emily Baird's low score of 49 and Leah Hellerud's birdie on hole 3. Great job, Panthers!
- Girls Tennis: CHS TENNIS IS ON THE MAP! Our girls have an overall record of 6-1 and are playing tough tennis, beating teams CHS has not beaten in years. This week our Panthers defeated Norte Vista in the 2nd closest match in the history of CHS tennis. They tied sets at 9-9 and when games were added the ladies edged NVHS 75-74. They understand the importance of every point and how crucial every game can be. They are becoming mentally strong and mature tennis players. Norte Vista was just the start of the week. They went on to beat Lakeside HS 17-1 and Etiwanda HS 12-6. There is a lot of depth to this team and they work together to stay positive and support each other. Returners also help our new freshmen to get ready for future of our program. Our freshmen are understanding that our current varsity players began the same as they are now, with little or no tennis experience, and they are in it for the long haul! It is our freshmen that will build tennis and make it stronger in future years. The girls open league Tuesday, September 18th against Eleanor Roosevelt HS with Varsity playing way and JV on home court. Let’s keep the momentum going girls!
- Cross Country: We will be competing Saturday, September 15th at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic at the Silverlakes Complex in Norco. Big VIII League opens Wednesday, September 19th at Eastvale Community Park. We would love your support!

Suicide Prevention Month
- September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Although it is extremely important to address this year-round, this month highlights these issues and provides a time for mental health advocates, prevention organizers, survivors, allies, and community members to unite to promote suicide awareness. According to the Jason Foundation, which is dedicated to the prevention of the “Silent Epidemic” of youth suicide through educational and awareness programs that equip young people, educators/youth workers and parents with the tools and resources to help identify and assist at-risk youth, shared that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for our youth ages 10-24 (2016, CDC WISQARS). Follow this link for more information: http://jasonfoundation.com/
Counselors, teachers, administration, clerks, custodians, parents, adults, and friends are in a key position to notice signs and to reach out to get help. Awareness and education are the first steps to prevention. Suicide is preventable. It is important to know the Warning Signs:
--Increased alcohol and drug use
--Aggressive behavior
--Social withdrawal from friends, family and the community
--Dramatic mood swings
--Talking, writing or thinking about death
--Impulsive or reckless behavior
--Giving away important possessions
--Feeling unbearable pain (emotional pain or physical pain)
--Talk about being a burden to others
