Principal's Corner
Progress Reports went home today during 3rd block. Please make sure you see it. If you have questions, please email your child's teacher. Encourage your child to focus because the end of the semester will come sooner than they think.
This week, we focused on learning the necessary skills to be ready for the ACT. 11th grade will take the ACT on April 9, 2024 for our school accountability. The rest of the grade levels are focused on academics to be ready for their next steps.
We will have a Half Day on Friday, February 16, 2024. School will end at 12:20p.m. The buses will run.
Have a good weekend!
If you need to send in absence excuses, please email lee.attendance@hsv-k12.org.

Goodness gracious, we have had an incredibly eventful past couple of weeks! The authors have represented our school beautifully in the classroom, school, region, AND state!
On February 2nd, a handful of authors went to the Alabama Scholastic Press Association’s state convention at UA in Tuscaloosa. They attended workshops and networked with other authors and journalists from around the state. They left the convention jazzed about this year’s lit mag and new ideas for our class, and I did, too! They also came home with some well-deserved awards for their writing and last year’s lit mag:
Harmoniouslee staff - ALL ALABAMA (highest award possible) for overall literary magazine
Harmoniouslee staff - FIRST PLACE for literary magazine cover design
Samantha Copeland - FIRST PLACE for literary magazine fiction, short
Louise Block - THIRD PLACE for literary magazine fiction, short
Ray Kendrick - FIRST PLACE for literary magazine essay
Elizabeth Graham - HONORABLE MENTION for literary magazine fiction, short
Tamara King - SECOND PLACE for literary magazine fiction, short
Seven of the poets are heading to the regional Poetry Out Loud competition on Friday, 2/9/24. These poets have diligently worked to perfect their delivery in reciting their poems, and we are hoping for another Lee Sweep (like last year). The brave poets are:
Samantha Copeland - anthology
Louise Block - anthology
Ray Kendrick - anthology
Max Beck - social issues
Anna McCombs - original
Aliyah Potter - original
Bella Smith - original
On top of all this excitement, the authors are sharing their own work daily, designing the school lit mag, AND working on their personal lit mags (I’ve NEVER seen underclassmen have this much talent this early on).
Stay tuned!
Photography Magnet Director- Mr. Willmarth
Students are looking at portraiture and how using personality traits can influence the portrait result. Students are also experimenting with creating non-traditional, non-objective images.

Film and Video Director- Mr. Lee
Keep your eye on social media for a promo video and a behind the scenes of Antigone Now! Next week, Filmmaking students will be starting a new project using in camera transitions to tell a story. These projects are designed to build the students skills in preparation for our 2nd 9 weeks short film project.
