Turkish Earthquake Relief Donations
Good evening Dealey families,
I am sure you are all aware of the devastating 7.8 earthquake that has severely affected the people of Turkey and Syria. One of the most powerful earthquakes to hit the region in a century. Humanitarian efforts around the world are underway and our community has the opportunity to help those in need today.
The Turkish American Association of Northern Texas is collecting goods to be sent to Turkey, VIA Turkish Airways, this Thursday. There will be more dates to follow. (https://turant.net/)
Attached to this email is a list of drop off locations and items that are currently needed. Additionally, there will be a donation box in the front office tomorrow morning to collect any of the items listed. Please label your donations clearly. The box will be picked up after Thursday morning drop off.
Thank you for your support in this endeavor
Dealey Dragons,
Black History Month is a month to celebrate the accomplishments and the history of Black people. Black History IS American History. We have an enormous responsibility as educators at incredibly diverse schools to honor, value, and celebrate Black leaders and listen deeply, responding with compassion while empowering our Black children. Our community will be strongest when every individual in the community is seen, heard, valued, and appreciated while being exactly and freely who they are.
I welcome the vulnerability and self-awareness it takes to be in a space of learning and growth as educators of all races; to listen, ask questions of each other, learn, grow, improve, and own up to those moments when we fall short. I also invite you to support our White, Asian, Indian, Hispanic, and Multi-Race students with the awareness and impact of their actions and words by confronting racism and bias in our classrooms and our community as we work together to create a better future for our children.
Confronting bias and treating others with value and respect are actions we need to take every day, not just in February. However, Black History Month gives us a space to intentionally create deeper connections and learning for both ourselves and our children. Honor this occasion with thought-provoking dialogue, by creating JOY through our many celebrations, choosing COURAGE when confronted with a difficult question or situation, and building TRUST with our children and peers as you listen, learn, and honor our history.
Sincerely,
Cristina Ibarra (Principal)
