TCS Safety Brief:
At recent meetings of the newly formed Safety Review Team, the implementation of a new safety drill was discussed. The name of the drill is a “Switch Drill”. This spring, TCS students will participate in a “Switch Drill” during one of their normal planned monthly drills. Before “Switch Drills” begin, faculty meetings, grade level meetings or class meetings will be held to explain the switch drill to teachers first. Then, teachers, administrators, or counselors will convey the information to the students.
Procedure for Switch Drills:
“Switch Drills” will start as a fire drill, and switch to a lockdown.
When the fire drill sounds, students and teachers proceed as normal to their designated areas.
They will listen carefully for the fire drill alert to switch to lockdown alert.
When the fire drill changes to a lockdown, students should go to the nearest empty classroom.
Teachers should be prepared to lower the shades and lock the door in a classroom that may not be their classroom.
However, it may be possible for teachers and students to return to their own classroom for the lockdown.
More than one set of students may end up in a random classroom.
“Switch Drills” will start small in a single hallway until the whole school is ready.
The Fire Department and SRO will know the times and dates of the “Switch Drills”.
Follow-Up to Switch Drills:
The Safety Review Team and Administrators will review feedback for improvement of the “Switch Drills”.
School safety is of paramount importance to your City and School System leaders. We hope this new drill adds value to our existing safety plans. Please see our earlier Safety Edition of In the Loop for more safety information.
Dr. Pattie Neill
Superintendent

Preparing for Alabama Civics Testing in 2018-19! Way to go Teachers!
Many thanks to teachers Erin McGuyer, Leigh Stovall, Josh Haynes, and Jeff Schrupp for attending the Alabama Civics Test Development Training providing by Scantron in Tuscaloosa. It was an extremely successful day! Terry Grissom with Scantron facilitated the training by teaching how to create an assessment on the Assessment Series website. After this training, teams were given time to collaborate and create a test or leave for the day. Our team of teachers wanted to stay and work. Because of their diligence, Trussville City Schools is ready to administer the required Civics test in 2018-2019.

SPRING CARNIVAL DATES ANNOUNCED! COME AND JOIN THE FUN!
For immediate release
TRUSSVILLE, AL –The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) has announced dates for its annual spring carnival. The carnival will be held Wednesday through Saturday, March 21-24, in the grassy area next to Holy Cross Episcopal Church and across from Trussville City Hall. The spring carnival is sponsored by Amari and Gray Law Firm.
‘We know the community looks forward to the spring carnival, and we’re glad to partner with Holy Cross Episcopal Church to bring the carnival for our community,’ says TACC’s Executive Director Diane Poole. She added that the carnival is the week before spring break because of the way Easter falls this year.
The carnival will feature rides and activities for all ages, as well as some of your favorite fun festival foods. A wristband may be purchased for $15 which is good for unlimited rides. Coupons are available for $1 off the price of the wristband at the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce and on the chamber’s website. (Coupons must be printed; no electronic versions will be accepted.)
There are plenty of options for parking including Civitan Park and also the two parking lots on Main Street across from Bryant Bank. The Chamber and the City of Trussville ask that patrons please be considerate of the residents in the area, as well as the church, and not park on the grass or nearby driveways.
Please note: transactions will be cash only due to the lack of a connection at this location. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Tentative hours are Wednesday and Thursday 5 to 9 p.m., Friday 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturday 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. (Note: separate wristbands must be purchased for each shift on Saturday.) Dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions.
For more information on the chamber, please visit www.trussvillechamber.com, call the chamber at 655-7535, ‘like’ us on Facebook, or follow us on Instagram and Twitter.

Trussville City Fest Line-up is Announced
For immediate release –
TRUSSVILLE, AL - The 38th Annual Trussville City Fest will be held on Saturday, May 5. This year’s festival will run from 1-9 p.m. and will be capped off by fireworks. The festival is produced by the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, and its presenting sponsor is Trinity Contractors.
This year’s headliner is Sweet Tea Trio. Alabama natives and now Nashville-residents, Sweet Tea Trio opened for and performed with Kid Rock in Michigan and Indiana last year. They were chosen by LiveNation to be the opener for Bon Jovi in Birmingham and also performed at the CMA Music Fest in Nashville. The Trio signed an agreement with Kid Rock and Vector Management earlier this year.
“The three of us feel so honored that Kid Rock and Vector Management have given us this incredible opportunity. We give all the glory to God and we are so excited! We love our country music family and are looking forward to making music, hitting the road, and hopefully giving country music a sugar rush!” says Sweet Tea Trio.
The Trio’s self-titled EP, which includes two original songs, debuted on the iTunes Country Chart at #11 this past June. They made their national television debut singing at the Talladega Superspeedway, and have shared the stage with acts such as Lonestar, Tracy Lawrence, Scotty McCreery, Diamond Rio, Drake White, Shenandoah and others. The Trio was named Alabama’s 2016 Country Female Artist of the Year. (Bio info courtesy of www.sweetteatrio.com.)
Sweet Tea Trio will perform at 8 p.m. on the CenturyLink Stage.
Opening for Sweet Tea Trio will be local favorite Jackson Capps. A passionate musician since age 8, Jackson Capps made his Nashville debut at 10 years old playing at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. Two years later, he performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage. (Bio courtesy of www.jacksoncapps.com.) Jackson will perform at 6:45 p.m.
Other local performers are still being confirmed. In addition to great musical entertainment, there will be FREE kids’ activities and plenty of food available for purchase. Young and old alike will enjoy “hamster balls,” giant clear balls you can jump into and roll around in a pool without getting wet. There will be a balloon twister, a magician, face painting, demonstrations, and much more!
The Coca-Cola Food Court will again be located in the concrete area just a short walk from the food vendors. Other major sponsors for this year’s festival include Amerex Corporation, Massey Stotser & Nichols PC, Bryant Bank, Riders Harley Davidson, McSweeney Automotive/SCA Performance, Capps Painting, Hitchcock Maddox Financial Partners, and the City of Trussville.
Vendor spaces and volunteer opportunities are still available.
Admission to the festival is only $5 per person. A paid admission also includes a coupon for a complimentary Coca-Cola brand soft drink. Children 2 and under are admitted free. Families will love that once inside the festival, all kids’ activities are FREE! And be sure to pick up one of the official City Fest t-shirts for only $10!
For more information on the festival or to volunteer, please visit www.trussvillechamber.com, call the chamber office at (205) 655-7535, or ‘like’ us on Facebook.
