Eta Chapter held its September meeting via Zoom. Sisters visited and learned some helpful organizational hacks. Sisters also played an exciting scavenger hunt game with things around the house. We are looking forward to more great things to come this year from Eta Chapter!

Congratulations to our newest Sapphire Sister, Jeanie Bastin!

Jeanie has been a member of ADK since 1986!

At every meeting, each sister is expected to wear her Alpha Delta Kappa badge. If you forget to wear it, you should donate at least $1.00 to the "pot", which will be donated to the food bank in addition to donations from members that will be collected in November and March.

In December sisters decided to send the amount we usually spend for the Christmas Auction to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. A total of $220 was donated, and according to the food bank that bought 660 meals.

Alzheimer's isn't waiting — and neither are we. This year Eta Chapter is participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. Please consider joining our team.

This year we will once again award sisters for various levels of participation. Sisters earn "violets" as they complete the activities listed below. The sister with the most violets at the end of the year will receive a prize from the Violet Store. The prize will be a magnetic badge unless she already has one in which case another Violet Store prize will be awarded. The current totals earned this year are in the link below the activities.

Activities:

-one violet awarded for responding to the rsvp for each meeting

-one violet awarded for each meeting you wear the badge to

-one violet awarded for wearing pearls or ADK colors to a meeting/event

-one violet awarded for posting on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter (send screen shot to Stacey)

-one violet awarded for posting on state Facebook page (send screen shot to Stacey)

-five violets awarded for attendance at each meeting

-five violets awarded for doing something for ADK month in Oct. (treats to a school, etc.)

-five violets awarded for submitting an ADK grant

-five violets awarded for winning an ADK grant

-five violets awarded for hosting a meeting

-five violets awarded for doing an extracurricular activity at school/community outreach (retired members)

-five violets for winning a school, district, or state Award

-ten violets awarded for each prospective member brought to a meeting (Only those eligible to join will count for points.)

-other violet worthy activities may be added as the occasions arise

Due to the ever changing climate of the Covid-19 pandemic, how we meet may vary from month to month to ensure everyone's safety during these times.

Our proposed schedule is as follows:

November 8: Charcuterie board class at Ellyn Braud's in Geismer

December 13: Christmas party and auction at Susan’s in Gonzales

January 10: Facials or exercise class – location to be determined

February 7: TBD – food, fashion, or craft

March 11-12: State Convention in Bossier City

April 20: New Member Initiation at Leona’s in Central (initiation fee of about $40 for badge and pin)

May: No meeting

New members no longer need to have two or more years of experience in order to be inducted. Teachers who have graduated and met the requirements for certification and are under contract with a school are now eligible to join. Also retired teachers are now eligible for membership.
