MES Monthly Newsletter
December, 2023
Dear MES Families,
As we embrace the festive spirit of the season, I am delighted to extend warm holiday greetings to our wonderful school community. December brings with it a multitude of joyful activities that will surely add to the magic of this special time of year.
Christmas Concert Extravaganza:
Join us for a heartwarming evening filled with enchanting melodies and festive cheer at our annual Christmas concerts on two separate nights. Our talented students have been rehearsing diligently, and we can't wait to showcase their musical talents. Mark your calendars for December 5th at 6:00 PM for our preschool, kindergarten and first grade concert and December 7th at 6:00 PM for our second, third, and fourth grade concert all taking place in the MES Gym. Don't forget to invite friends and family to share in the joy of the season with us!
Santa's Workshop and Breakfast:
Santa's elves have been working tirelessly to create a magical workshop right here at MES. On Saturday, December 9th, our students will have the opportunity to visit Santa's Workshop, where they can purchase small Christmas gifts for friends and family. Additionally, families are invited to join us for a delightful Breakfast with Santa. It's the perfect chance for our school community to come together and celebrate the holiday season in a warm and joyful atmosphere.
Christmas Caroling in Downtown Lacon:
We're spreading the holiday spirit beyond the school walls this year! Join us for an afternoon of Christmas caroling in downtown Lacon on Friday, December 15th. It's a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and share the joy of the season with our neighbors. Students will be making stops at several local businesses.
As we wrap up the year, let us reflect on the achievements and growth of our students and the strong sense of community that defines our school. I am grateful for the dedication and support of our incredible families, staff, and students.
May your holiday season be filled with warmth, laughter, and the company of loved ones. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Warm regards,
Jason Wynn
Principal

Christmas Concerts
Lost & Found
Our lost and found is overflowing! Please ask your child to check the lost and found if they are missing something. Parents can stop by to check the lost and found located just inside the main entrance. All items remaining in the lost and found will be donated once winter break begins.
Recess - Colder Weather
It's time to begin thinking about cooler weather. Students will go outside for recess unless the temperature or weather is below 20 degrees. Please make sure your students are able to stay warm by dressing them appropriately.
Students must be properly dressed to play in the snow. This attire requires boots, snow pants, coats, mittens or gloves, and a hat or hood.
Emergency Closings Due to Inclement Weather
Severe weather sometimes makes it necessary to close the school. A district decision will be made no later than 6:15 am. Families that have up-to-date contact information in Skyward will receive a phone call and/or email stating that school has been canceled. In addition, the following radio and TV stations along with the district website and Facebook Pages can be referred to:
- WHOI TV
- WMBD
- WEEK TV 25
- WYZZ
If bad weather occurs during the day, the safety and welfare of the students will be the first consideration. Students should know what to do and where to go if they are sent home before regular dismissal time. Please set up and emergency plan for such instances.
E-Learning Plan
If school is canceled, the superintendent may declare the day an E-Learning Day. Please see the guidelines below for the procedures that will be followed in the event of an E-Learning Day. Please click on the E-Learning Plan link below to read the procedures.
