August Newsletter 2022
A Note from the Principal
Happy August!
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family relaxing and enjoying the sunshine!
My name is Holly Westlund and I am the new Lakeview Elementary Principal. I wanted to
introduce myself and share a few things about this upcoming school year.
Thank you to so many of you who have welcomed me into the Solon Community. I have loved getting to meet people and CAN NOT wait to meet ALL of our students soon!
About the Principal
As I shared previously, my name is Holly Westlund. This will be my 1st year in the district and 10th year in education. I live in Cedar Rapids with my husband and 3 daughters. My husband, Nick, is a dentist in Cedar Rapids. Our oldest, Emma, is in 4th grade and enjoys playing soccer, playing with her sisters and watching cooking shows. Evelynn is almost 3 and loves to dance and play dress up. Our youngest is Eleanor. She is 16 months old and does everything she can to keep up with her big sisters. As a family we love to read, go on bike rides, and have dance parties.
I am so excited to continue my career in education by taking on this new role. Prior to this, I served as the building facilitator at Prairie Heights Elementary in the College Community School District and taught kindergarten prior to that. I hold a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in Reading and Early Childhood and a Masters in Educational Leadership. I absolutely love watching kids grow, follow their passions and learn new skills.
Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time with questions, concerns and/or feedback. I want to support in any way that I can and help our students succeed in and outside of school.
BG/K-3 PARENT DROP OFF/PICK-UP PROCEDURES
Here are just a few reminders regarding drop off/pick up procedures at Lakeview.
Parent vehicles should stay within the cones when pulling up to the front of the building
Be mindful of all crosswalks and drive slowly as children may be crossing
BG/K-3rd grade students will be standing, by grade level, on the south side of the building. Parents can pull up between the cones and their child(ren) will be brought to their vehicle by a staff member
Please wait for a staff member to bring your child(ren) to your vehicle
We appreciate your cooperation as it helps with traffic flow and increased student safety!
