Student Drop Off/Pick Up
Parent drop off and pick up will take place on Butler Drive by the flagpole. This is also the pick up and drop off location during the school day and for after school activities. The cafeteria entrance off of Wolf Road is for School Buses only.
Once they are dropped off, students should walk up the sidewalk to the cafeteria entrance by the bus drop off.
All buses will drop off by Wolf Road and students will enter the cafeteria.
Students being dropped off after 7:30 will need to press the door buzzer in the foyer of the main entrance and office staff will allow the student in. Students getting picked up during the school day will need a prior request made by their parents. Students will then be released when the parent/guardian arrives.

Meet the New HMS Staff
Shannon Buerosse-8th Grade ELA/Science
My name is Shannon Buerosse and I am coming to Horning Middle School from Oconto Falls (a bit north of Green Bay). I taught at the middle school there for 7 years, mostly ELA, but also Social Studies and Science. I am originally from just south of Milwaukee, and I couldn't be more excited to be coming back home! I have an 8 year old son that will be starting in Waukesha in the fall. When I am not at school, I enjoy hiking, reading, cooking and being at the lake. I can't wait for the school year to start and to begin this new adventure at Horning!
Jane Koestring-6th Grade Social Studies/Science
My name is Jane Koestring and I'm just so excited to start my teaching career here at Horning! I am a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I received my Master's degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. Although I loved my time in Madison, I'm thrilled to return to the Milwaukee area, where I spent 2 wonderful (though pandemic-interrupted) years. When I decided to be a teacher, I knew middle school was the place for me. What wonderful, intelligent, funny, and dynamic kids those 6th-8th graders are!
Otherwise, I love to travel, try new restaurants, and hang out with my little cat, Baby. I visit my family down in Illinois (I know, I know) as often as I can, but I truly love being an honorary Cheesehead.
I can't wait to begin the school year and my career in education here in Waukesha! Looking forward to meeting you all!
Sierra Mariani-Special Education
My name is Sierra Mariani. I have just finished My Special Education license at Concordia University. I started my career as a Special Education Assistant at Horning, and I am very excited to be back with the team full time working with 7th grade! I will be graduating this December with my Masters in Special Education. I also have a Bachelors in Business Management. I am very excited and overjoyed to be back.
Personally, I have a 9 year old son named Ayden who goes to Banting, 2 mini doxies (Lilo and Lenny) and a Cat (Chico). We enjoy doing arts and crafts and staying busy. We love to take our dogs to the dog park, and in my spare time I enjoy diamond art and watching new tv shows. I also love to snack and have a great addiction to Mt. Dew! :)
Kira Pless-8th Grade Dual Language
My name is Kira Pless. I was born and raised in Green Bay, WI, and graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2019, after studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been working with Dual Language learners of all ages for about four years and this is my third year teaching in Waukesha. I previously taught fourth and fifth grade Dual Language at Banting. I am extremely excited to be teaching 8th grade Social Studies and Spanish and English Language Arts.
When I am not at school my boyfriend, Zach, and I enjoy traveling, hiking, or spending time outside. We recently moved to Waukesha last year from downtown Milwaukee and absolutely love this community.
I am looking forward to an amazing school year!

Dress Code and Attendance Reminders
Dress Code: Click here to review the Dress Code policy outlined in the middle school student handbook for more information:
A brief description of several areas are below:
Hats, bandanas, hoods, & other headwear are not permitted
Hoodies must be worn with the hood down
Clothing should completely cover the chest, midriff and buttocks
No undergarments should be visible when standing or sitting
No strapless, off the shoulder or low cut tops allowed at school
Any clothing, jewelry, body art, or any accessory advertising alcohol, tobacco or other drugs are at a counter purpose with district AODA programs and therefore deemed inappropriate.
Attendance:
Attendance is extremely important.
Our school wide expectation is that every student is arriving to their scheduled class on time prior to the start of class bell. This will ensure that active learning time is maximized and students are receiving the best learning environment possible.
Students have 3 minutes to transition from one class to the next. This time should be used to prepare for their upcoming class.
Students are able to access their lockers before school, before lunch, after lunch, and at the end of the school day. Students should be utilizing these opportunities to prepare themselves for their early/late classes.
Please do your best to make sure that your technology (iPad) is charged and ready to go at the start of the day. This will ensure classroom time is maximized for learning.
Cell Phone:
The School District of Waukesha has in place a cell phone policy that requires cell phones to be placed in their locker upon entering the school building. The phone should be turned off and left in their locker until they leave at the end of the school day.
Thank you all for helping support us in a successful school year. Working together we can accomplish great things.
