How to Have a Device Free Holiday
Common Sense Media for Parents has some great suggestions for a Device Free (ish) Holiday. Some tips include: Be jolly - but firm, plan a device-free dinner, have a download derby, and remember your media habits are being observed by some watchful little ones!
Winter Break Bingo
Sometimes during Winter Break we find ourselves with some extra time. If you would like to encourage your child to read in unusual places - this bingo board might do the trick! Fee free to print it out. For an extra incentive -send it back on January 2 to the media center with your child's name, and teacher's name first thing in the morning -after the bell rings! We may have a prize for completion. Happy Reading!
Parent Resources on My Website
I have been adding parent resource links to my JP Computer Lab Website. If there are links you would like to see added to this resource please let me know!
The National Center for Improving Literacy
The Kidzone at the National Center for Improving Literacy is a fun place to visit with your child. Visit the link today to find a selection of books to read or listen to and activities to practice early reading readiness skills.
Hour of Code
All students have been enjoying hour of code activities during media time. The activities may be found on our JP website. Ask your child to show you some of their coding skills over break!
Lights, Camera, Action!
5th grade students are in the process of creating green screen projects. These videos will help teach younger students about digital safety and citizenship. The topics cover objectives the 5th graders have been learning about during media class.
Star of the North and Maud Hart Lovelace Awards
Students have been enjoying the Star of the North nominated books for 2019-2020. Ask your K-2nd grader which one has been their favorite so far. Students in grades 3-5 learned about the Maud Hart Lovelace Nominees (division one)! If they read or listen to 3 or more of these nominated books the students will be able to vote on their favorite!
