I can't believe I am saying this, but Summer is just around the corner. I want to thank everyone for welcoming me with open arms this school year. It has been a great 5 months with your students and the staff at CES! I couldn't be more blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school district that puts children first. As I think about my first group of 2nd Graders moving up to CUES I am both sad to have them go and also excited about their futures. They are a great group of kids! I will be following their progress as they grow and develop over the years. They will always be special to me! As the year winds down I am already planning for next year. We have a lot of exciting adventures to look forward to for next year.

Kindergarten Graduation

This Friday, June 3rd is Kindergarten Graduation!! Kindergartners will not attend school this day. Parents please bring your student to the High School Fitness Center in their cap and gown by 9:30am. They will then have the remainder of the day after graduation off to enjoy lunch with you.

Summer School Enrichment

We will be sending out information very soon on how to sign up for summer school enrichment classes! There will be limited spots, keep an eye out for more information.

Great Start Readiness Program in Jackson County is currently accepting applications for 3 and 4 year old children for the 2022-2023 school year. Children must be 4 years old by December 1, 2022 to qualify for the Great Start Readiness Program and 3 years old by December 1, 2021 to qualify for Head Start.

Counselor Corner

We have made it to June! For some of our students this was the first "normal" school year they have ever had. I am so proud of all the hard work and growth all of our students have made on all levels this year!

Periodically over the summer I will be in my office but will be checking my email even when I am not. Please feel free to reach out if you are in need of resources or if there is a way I can support your student as we move into the new school year.

* MOVE UP DAY * This year we will be participating in Move Up day! You may be familiar as CUES has done this the past few years. Students will be "Moving Up" where they will meet the teacher they will have for the 2022-2023 school year. This will take place before the last day of school. Keep an eye out for their new teachers letter and next year supply list to come home with them!

Nurse's Corner

As we approach the end of the school year and the multiple fluctuations of weather here in Michigan we are seeing more and more symptoms of coughing, runny noses, itchy/watery eyes, fatigue, etc. With allergies becoming more prevalent this time of year it can be hard to tell the difference between a common cold, the seasonal flu, or a simple allergy. Although all have similar symptoms, it is important to be able to spot the differences in order to collaborate with your provider for best treatment.

Common Cold

symptoms last up to 2 weeks
stuffy/runny nose, sore throat, cough
treated with rest, fluids, and over the counter medications to ease symptoms

Flu

symptoms last 1-2 weeks
high fever (100-102 degrees F or higher for the littles), headache, body ache, weakness, exhaustion, cough, chest discomfort
treated with rest, fluids, over the counter medications, and antiviral medications prescribed by a provider

Allergy

lasts as long as allergens (pollen/pet dander) are present
stuffy/runny nose, itchy/watery eyes
treated with antihistamines, decongestants, or nasal steroids

PLANNING FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR:

New Medication Forms must be filled out by the parent/guardian AND provider for the upcoming 22'-23' school year. This goes for both prescription and non-prescription medications. All medication authorization forms expire at the end of each school year. You can stop in the front office to pick up a form or email me at paige.schlegel@myeagles.org and I can send one over to you.

For those that had brought in medications for the 21'-22' school year, please pick them up at the front office by the end of the school year as we are unable to use them next year. As well as needing a new Medication Form we will also need a new, un-used/un-opened medication to start the new school year.
