Street Fighter is a game that was first released in 1987 by Capcom for the arcade, and can now be found on Android, PlayStation Portable, and Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The Street Fighter series was groundbreaking in the fighter genre getting multiple articles to call it game of the year just months after it came out. Up to December 31, 2019, the Street Fighter series made an estimated 12 billion dollars. Street fighter was so popular because it introduced new features in combat such as combos, blocking, and secret techniques that the player had to find themselves instead of just mindlessly beating enemies.

I believe everyone that enjoys fighter games should play Street Fighter at least once to see what “the golden ages” were like and to embrace the origins of fighter games, combo moves, and blocking. Alas, I must admit that the game can get boring quickly after you find all the combo moves. The story is also short and a bit stale, yet competitive fighting is an option for those who enjoyed the gameplay.

Home Alone is a movie starring Macaulay Culkin and Joe Pesci. It was released in 1990. It is comedy about a boy that is mistakenly left Home Alone during the Christmas holiday when his whole family goes on vacation. This movie is very funny and if you have not seen it, you should take the time to watch it this winter break. You will not be disappointed.

You may have heard of or even watched the movie called The Polar Express. But, did you know it was first a picture book written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg? This beautifully illustrated and exciting book was the inspiration for the movie of the same name. If you have not heard of it, you can enjoy the book being read by Liam Neeson on you tube (see the link below). It is sure to be a favorite for you and your family.

Everyone enjoys looking at the bright light displays for the holiday season. Here are a few you and your families can see in the Aurora Area.

Aurora Festival of Lights at Philips Park - The light display has been at the park for fourteen years, the Festival of Lights in Aurora's historic Phillips Park is one of the largest free outdoor holiday light displays in northern Illinois. There are new displays every year. The Festival of Lights is an epic winter event with surprises around every curve, including animated displays like the 20-foot tall "singing" Christmas tree and Santa's Toy Factory. Donations are accepted to help the Rotary Club of Aurora to keep the Festival of Lights going each year. To donate visit aurorafestivaloflights.com/donate. The Festival of Lights takes place through Sunday, Dec. 27th, Monday to Thursday 5 to 9 PM and Friday/Saturday 5 to 10 PM.

Holiday Lights at Mooseheart - This light display has over 80 displays and is over nearly two miles long. It is one of Chicagoland's largest holiday light tours, the Holiday Lights at Mooseheart is another fabulous light display for you and your family in the Aurora Area. Mooseheart is a residential childcare facility located on 1,000 acres between North Aurora and Batavia. Mooseheart's holiday lights attract visitors from all across the U.S. over the years and is a family favorite with amazing light shows throughout the property. Moosheart Holiday Lights takes place through Thursday, Dec. 31st, the suggested donation is $20 per car.

Lehnertz Ave. Christmas Display - This display has been around for 69 years. The Lehnertz Avenue Christmas Display has been a community tradition for all the families that live on the street and the community. The free holiday drive-through tour shows the biblical Christmas story as told through a beautiful collection of illuminated books, figures representing biblical figures and a manger scene. There is also a Peanuts display at Lehnertz Ave. with Snoopy and his friends. Lehnertz Ave. will be open from Dec. 13th through Jan. 2nd from 5 to 10 PM.

Holiday Lights at Rich Harvest Farms - This holiday light show is located on one of the Top 100 U.S. golf courses. From November 25 to December 31, Rich Harvest Farms will be shining brightly with the over 40 different light displays. To find the golf course look for the little red school house near the Granart and Dugan Road Roundabout. The display will continue all the way to St. Katharine-Drexel Catholic Church. This display is a one-mile drive down Dugan Road in Sugar Grove.
