Mask Mandate & Class Schedule
Updated Health Guidance
Dear D103 Community,
I hope you are enjoying your summer as we head back to school in just a few weeks. I would like to provide you with an update regarding our procedures for the start of school.
Masking
Today, Governor Pritzker announced a mask mandate in schools this fall for all students, staff, and visitors regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, on July 27, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) provided updated guidance recommending universal masking in schools due to the rise of COVID, specifically the Delta variant. Throughout the pandemic, we have followed the state mandates and health departments’ guidance resulting in very low cases of COVID in our schools with no transmission. We will continue to follow the laws and guidance to require everyone to wear a mask while in school. This guidance changes frequently, and we will continue to update our practices as necessary.
Contact Tracing and Quarantine
Per federal and state health guidelines, vaccinated students do not need to quarantine following COVID-19 exposure unless they contract COVID. If your child is 12 years old or older and is vaccinated, please email a copy of the record to the Daniel Wright nurse, Marissa Pastori at mpastori@d103.org, or drop off a paper copy at the Daniel Wright school office so we can identify which individuals do not need quarantine if they are identified as a close contact based on the current guidance from the Lake County Health Department. If we do not receive a copy of the vaccination card, your child will be quarantined if he/she is identified as close contact. Again, this guidance may change and we will keep you informed of any changes.
Students who are quarantined due to having contracted COVID or are a close contact will receive remote learning during the quarantine period only. Specific information regarding the format of remote learning will be provided at a later date.
Optional weekly COVID-19 testing
To help keep our schools as safe as possible, we will be implementing optional weekly COVID testing for unvaccinated staff and students. Staff and students will be able to take home a simple nose/cheek swap kit on Thursdays and return the swab on Fridays. Test results will be emailed to parents Sunday night. If the test is positive, information on the next steps will be sent to each family. Additional information will be provided next week on this program.

Thank you for your partnership as we welcome our students back to the first day of school on August 19.
Sincerely,
Scott Warren, Ed.D
