Joplin Elks #501 Donated $2,500 to the Alternative Academy
Members of the Joplin (MO) Elks Lodge were at Monett Alternative Education Academy on Friday, December 11, to donate $2,500 to help the Academy continue their academic goals. “These kids represent the future of our communities, and as such, are the best possible place to invest,” said Joplin Elks Exalted Ruler Susan Cook. The Academy focuses on helping students overcome challenges, a goal the Elks fully support. Along with programs like the Alternative Education Academy, the Elks provide millions of dollars of scholarship opportunities nationwide and seek to work with school districts to help students reach their full potential to become valued members of the community.
Academy students set weekly goals with their teachers and earn $1 in Cub Cash for each goal met. Cub Cash can then be spent at the Academy store on snacks and other items. The Academy will now fund larger incentives for quarterly and semester goals, thanks to the Joplin Elks Lodge's generosity!
Thank you to the Joplin Elks Lodge 501 for your generous donation of $2500 to our student incentive program!
Care to Learn
In these unprecedented times, more families are finding themselves in need during this holiday season than ever before. Under the district counselors' direction, Monett Care to Learn program helped 183 students this Christmas season. These families were given vouchers to Walmart to assist in the areas of hygiene and health. The parents purchased the needed items to give to their children at Christmas.
Shop with a Cop
The Shop with a Cop program, led by SRO Jay Jastal, has been a blessing to families this year, serving 48 Monett R-1 students and several selected students from surrounding schools. In this program, police officers met the families at Walmart and were able to help the children choose gifts for themselves or others using a gift card.

MMS Students Chain Links Fundraiser
Students at MMS hold a yearly tradition of Christmas Chain Links. This is a fundraiser organized by Ms. Barker and the STUCO students. Students and staff donate money to help families in need during Christmas time. For every quarter given, a chain link is hung up in the South building. 7th-grade students collected $251.18, and 8th-grade students collected $316.61 with a total of $567.79! The Christmas Chain Link money was used to help 20 families have a better Christmas this year. They were also able to purchase food items to be placed in baskets handed out to Monett's homeless. Thank you all who helped give to the Chain Links! We appreciate your generosity and giving heart!
GO CAPS
All the GO CAPS strands worked together to help three families in need this holiday season. Students purchased and prepared gifts to go to these deserving homes.

SRTC
We are so proud of Kaylie Mallory and her Community Giving Project she wanted to donate canned goods to Harvest Church located in Aurora, MO. Kaylie had the idea to have a can food drive and add a competitive element. She challenged all the Scott Tech Programs to donate canned goods and the winner would receive a pizza party. The classroom competitions were a huge success and the Culinary Arts students were the winner of the competition.
This Holiday Season our SkillsUSA Chapter is making and sending cards to all the residents of Bentonview, Lacoba, and OakPointe Facilities.

Monett Hall of Fame
State Champions, All-Americans, All-State Selections, and numerous other accolades have been awarded to individuals and teams representing our community over the years. At Monett, we have a large number of players, coaches, and contributors that have been a part of our great athletic tradition. These individuals and teams have been a great source of pride for the community over the years. Formal recognition of these people is long overdue.
Daryl Bradley, Monett District Athletic Director, and Michael Calhoun, Monett Assistant Athletic Director, are starting an Athletic Hall of Fame. The Monett School District now has a method to select individuals for this prestigious honor. The Hall of Fame project was formally brought to the Board of Education at the December 2019 meeting. The Board of Education received clarification on this project from Assitant Athletic Director, Michael Calhoun. In January 2020, the Board voted on allowing the athletic department to start the process with the Hall of Fame.
Effective immediately, the selection process will begin in December 2020.
