Welcome to 1stgrade! My name is Kimberly Stone. I’m so happy to be your 1st grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. This will begin my 15th year of teaching. I taught in Paris for 9 of those years, and I taught in Grand Prairie for 6 years. This is my second year at Aikin, and I am so very excited for this school year!

We eat lunch early in the morning (11:05 - 11:35), so the students may want a snack around math time (2ish). We have 19 students in our class, so if you would like to send individually wrapped snacks or a bag of something (large enough for 19 students), you can send them, and I will pass them out. We will not do individual snacks because I do not want kids eating in front of other kids that do not have a snack. Thank you all for your support.

Goals for the First 2 Days Of School (Monday & Tuesday):

Our goal for the first days of school is to establish our class rules, procedures and build our social contract to determine how we will treat each other in our classroom. First impressions are important and the first day must begin in positive way so we will focus on building relationships instead of content for these 2 days. I want students to leave looking forward to the second week of first grade, and so on.

We Will:

• Establish a safe, warm environment where all students feel a sense of belonging⁣,
• Begin to build relationships with and among students⁣,
• Learn a few routines/procedures each day⁣,
• Create a sense of excitement about school and learning⁣,
• Make sure students leave school on the first day having positive feelings about their classroom, teacher, and first day experiences⁣.

Last 3 Days (Wednesday - Friday)

We will begin our lessons in the curriculum for RLA, math, science and social studies.

RLA: Monitor Comprehension/Generate Ideas for Writing

Math: Collect, Sort & Organize Data Using Tally Marks or T-Charts

Science: Record Weather Information (hot/cold, clear/cloudy, calm/windy, rainy/icy)

Social Studies: Rules and Laws in the Home, School and Community

It is very important that we get all papers and cards back on each student.
