The Mighty Eagles' Digest
September 11, 2022
Hello Amazing Eagle Families,
I hope everyone is relaxing and enjoying their weekend. Thursday is Open House at SLE, and we are excited to see everyone on campus. Open House gives parents an opportunity to learn about their child's curriculum standards, understand classroom expectations, and gives them time to ask questions. There are two sessions (5:00 pm and 6:00 pm).
If you need a conference with your child's teacher, you can sign up for a date and time at Open House. Our teachers have a small window of time to reset for their next Open House session. At 6:45 pm, the teachers will be excused, so they have time to participate in the PTA Open House Raffle.
During Open House, we will have PTA on site selling t-shirts and PTA memberships. We will also have our PTA Open House Raffle in the Eagle Cafe'. Please see the flyer located in the Mighty Eagles' Digest. There is an abundance of items and experiences you can win. I want to thank all businesses that donated items or experiences for our raffle. Our Partners in Education will be attending Open House as well.
Finally, you are invited to join us virtually on Tuesday for our SAC meeting at 5:15 pm and our PTA meeting at 6:00 pm.
We are looking forward to another week of success at the Eagles' Nest.
Sincerely,
Andrew Rollins, Ed.D.

While you are there, don’t forget to pick up your Spirit Shirts! Starting at Open House, we will have the new grey shirt available in Dry Fit! Speaking of, Spirit Week is coming up the week of 9/26! This year’s focus is to help stock the UCF Food Pantry and local families who have a need for cereal. Bring in a box of cereal to donate one day during spirit week – and then see how that will make an impact!
To wrap up Spirit Week, we are having a free movie night at Stone Lakes on Friday, 9/30 at 7 pm. The movie starts at 8 pm. We will have pizza and snacks for sale, so come get set up, grab some food, and enjoy Zombies 3 (the latest of the Disney Zombies trilogy – Rated G)! We can’t wait to see everyone there!
We also can’t wait to see everyone at our First General PTA Meeting! It will take place
on Tuesday, 9/13 @ 6:00 pm. We will go through this year’s plans and events. This is a virtual meeting.

Audition Process
- Students will audition after school. There are not any parents allowed in during auditions.
- Students will have an assigned audition time. They will need to be picked up in the carline as soon as they finish their audition.
- If your child attends Extended Day, we will help them find their group.
- If your child has an audition after 2:45 pm, they must take their normal route home, and a parent can bring them back for their audition.
- Parents will need to wait outside for their child to finish their auditions.
- Results will be posted outside of the music room and on students' Music Canvas Course.
- Results will not be posted until after the 5th-grade students have auditioned.
- If your child chooses to audition and makes it into the performing ensemble, they will receive a permission slip with all the information. Practices will be held after school on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:00 – 4:30 pm and are mandatory. If practice is skipped, then another student will be selected for the part.

OCPS COVID-19 Guidance for Students
- DOH guidance is still a 5-day isolation period for students. Parents should work with their child's doctor or the local health department for return recommendations related to a positive home test or lab result if needed.
- Per the Governor’s executive order, students are able to return earlier than 5 days with a doctor’s note or negative test. Negative tests are not needed to return after a 5-day isolation period. In addition, masks are not required when the student returns. However, as a precaution, the CDC encourages masks after an isolation period.
- Sick students or staff members are NOT required to submit a negative COVID-19 test when they become symptomatic. Sick individuals without a COVID-19 diagnosis can return once fever free for 24 hours. Again, sick individuals should not be on campus or at their work locations.
Parent Consent Form (PCF)—Reminder
- The PCF provides parents/legal guardians with the right to make important decisions involving how their child can use available technology resources, how the district uses available media of their child, what personally identifiable information is released about their child, and whether students will participate in school clinic services, health screenings, and mental health services.
- This form MUST be completed by each parent/guardian to access clinic services, health screenings, and other student services.
- A parent must elect to opt-in to each individual service. For example, if the Skyward Parent Consent Form were not completed to supply consent for the school’s clinic services, and your child needs to visit the school clinic, then the school clinic will be unable to treat your child, and the parent/guardian will be contacted, except in the case of an emergency. In the case of an emergency, the parent/guardian and appropriate emergency personnel will be contacted.
- Parents/guardians must complete the PCF as soon as possible, but no later than ten days after the start of the school year and/or entry.

Updated DELAYED DISMISSAL PROCEDURES 2022-2023
Afternoon rain, thunder, and lightning storms are common weather situations in Florida. Below is the email message that parents will receive once a Delayed Dismissal is started. Once the Delayed Dismissal is finished, normal dismissal procedures will be started and students will be released to follow their normal routes home.
When possible, we will start the car line process 15 minutes early in order to avoid a Delayed Dismissal which is a win/win for all of us. Walkers and bike riders will be released early only if a parent or guardian is there to pick them up, which is typically the case.
NEW
- Our goal is to make the delayed dismissal process more efficient.
- Parents in the car rider line will remain in their cars. This makes the process more efficient, and parents will no longer be exposed to the bad weather. In addition, we will not have cars parked in the car line, which stops the entire car line process.
- Parents picking up walkers and biker riders will pick up by the basketball lobby doors. The students will be supervised inside the building and released to parents at the basketball lobby doors. There will be staff members guiding the entire process.
- All parents walking up will have to pick up their children at the walker/bike rider location. This includes parents in the car rider line who decide to park instead of staying in the car line.
Parent CANVAS Account
To register for your account go to: https://Parents.classlink.com/ocps You will set up your account using the email or phone number you have on file with the school. Once you do this, you will have access to a wealth of information about your child or children. Especially to note, you will have access to all of your student’s Canvas courses including Stone Lakes Student Body 22-23. The Student Body page is “one-stop shopping” for all things SLES—morning announcements, special calendar events, etc.
If you need additional assistance creating your account, please contact Ms. Fink at 27453@ocps.net.

Afternoon Carline Helpful Hints
There are almost 200 cars daily in the afternoon carline and it can take an extended period of time. We are always looking for ways to make this process more efficient, but we need your help. Below are some helpful tips to keep the car line moving quickly.
- All parents/guardians must have a car tag. If you do not have a car tag in the car line please park and go to the front office. Verifying IDs in the carline greatly impedes the process.
- If you need a car tag, please send the student’s first and last name along with their grade level to patricia.howell@ocps.net so she can make a sign for your vehicle.
- All parents must remain in their cars. If you need to buckle your child in, please pull all the way up to the bike rack, so the entire car line does not stop.
- If your child can walk or ride their bike home, that may be a good option.
- We are starting the kindergarten car rider line at 2:30 pm (1:30 on Wednesdays).
- Most importantly, please be patient it does take longer at the beginning of the school year. We want to make sure all kids are being placed in the correct cars.
