FAMILIES AS PARTNERS IN LEARNING
FROM PUZZLE TO PLAN... LEARN HOW TO PARTNER WITH TEACHERS TO SUPPORT YOUR STUDENT'S LEARNING!
When it comes to conference time, and learning how your child is progressing in school, there are a number of puzzle pieces to put together. Teachers bring some of the pieces, and families bring others. All these pieces are important to understanding your child's progress and achievement so you can support learning skills at home.
We are working together with Patti Jomo of Willow Road Consulting to bring you a workshop that will help you, as a parent, be ready to partner with your child's teacher starting with strategies for the upcoming parent-teacher conferences.

THE CULTURE WITHIN US - THE INSIDE OUT PROJECT
The Spirit of UN Week Continues!
As another gift to us and our school, Mr. Coric came to JC and photographed the UN Day Parade. He has since put together a beautiful video that captures the incredible diversity of our community and the pride that we all feel being a part of such an amazing event. After seeing the video, Mr. Kul Chandra Gautam, a distinguished diplomat, development professional, and a former senior official of the United Nations commented, "Events and gestures involving the young generation like the UN Day Parade at Julian Curtiss School give me hope that the spirit of human solidarity and faith in multilateralism will remain eternal. Lovely slide show, and admirable commitment of the school community. Keep it up!"
Thank you again to Mr. Coric for his talents and commitment to spreading a message of equality, hope and pride. Please enjoy the video below!
VETERANS DAY
On Monday, November 11th, JC students and staff will be honoring veterans with a special recognition ceremony and reception starting at 9:00 am.
Guests who will be joining us should report to the Main Office to sign in and be welcomed to our ceremony.
GREENWICH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The Greenwich Symphony Orchestra (GSO), under the direction of Associate Conductor Tara Simoncic, hosts a "Young People's Concert" series, which provides professional orchestra concerts, free of charge, during school hours, for all children attending grades two through seven in 23 public and private schools in Greenwich.
The program combines classroom instruction and an experiential concert. Music teachers prepare students for knowledgeable listening with CD recordings and creative classroom assignments that are prepared by the GSO’s Young People’s Concert Committee, Dr. Sandra Rogers Heikel and GPS The Arts Program Coordinator Laura White Newell.
At Thursday's concert, the first of three concerts available to our students, fourth and fifth graders across the District listened to an entire program dedicated to soloists. This concert program even gained the interest and attention of ABC7 News, a New York City media outlet. They interviewed a few student attendees, orchestra members, and program coordinators to share the benefits of this great music programming available to our students. Here is a link to the story which includes a video:
Connecticut's Greenwich Symphony uses power of music, performance to inspire students
The three triple-performance concerts are funded by the GSO, with contributions from the Greenwich Board of Education, Greenwich Private Schools, friends, foundations, corporations, and proceeds from the GSO Board’s annual benefit events.
GREENWICH EDUCATORS ARE LIFELONG LEARNERS
While schools were closed on Election Day, our GPS Educators came together for a day of learning, collaboration and innovation. A primary goal of the GPS Professional Learning System is to provide personalized choice in professional learning opportunities for all staff, to support educators and their ability to personalize learning for all students. GPS Educators chose learning sessions from a program of over 60 options ranging from high-impact instructional strategies, content-based learning with national researchers and presenters, and collaborating with colleagues on curriculum. Early participant feedback indicates an appreciation for having choice, time with professional learning communities and the relevant topics and strategies that can be taken back to the classroom immediately.
The Chief Academic Officer and Academic Program Coordinators continue to develop a program of professional learning that aligns with state standards and GPS Professional Learning Goals.
