CES Weekly Communicator
Issue #15: December 1, 2023
Principal Corner
Time is flying quickly at Chapelfield. It is hard to believe that we are in December already. Our students are working hard everyday and learning something new to share with you.
The weather is getting much colder especially this week. We have many students that are not wearing a coat or dressing appropriately for the colder temperatures. We will have outdoor recess if the temperature is 20 degrees or higher. Please make sure that your child is prepared. Labeling gloves, hats, and coats is also helpful. If your child is in need of a coat, hat, or gloves please let myself or Mrs. Jasin know. Mrs. Jasin's email is: jasink@gjps.org. We have had many of those items donated by our community.
We have many coats that are in lost in found. Items not claimed by next Friday, will be donated.
Thank you for your constant support of us! Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller
Counselor Corner
Hello Chapelfield Families!
There is a variety of important information in this month's communication, so please read the tips and resources below. Encouraging gratitude in our children is an important part of our job as educators and parents. Requiring a child to "say thank you" or prompting kids with "what do you say?" after they have been given something doesn't teach the child the "why" behind saying thank you and expressing gratitude.
See below for tips on how to teach gratitude at home.
Model Gratitude Through Conversation
Start conversations with your child by sharing what you're grateful for, creating an open and positive atmosphere. For example, say, "I'm thankful for the beautiful weather today. What made you happy?"
Highlight Acts of Kindness
Encourage your child to discuss acts of kindness they've witnessed or experienced. Ask questions like, "Did anyone do something nice for you today? How did it make you feel?"
Connect Gratitude to Feelings
Help your child understand the emotional aspect of gratitude by asking questions like, "When someone shares their toys with you, how does that make you feel? Why do you think it's important to say thank you?"
Encourage Thank-You Reflections
Prompt your child to reflect on the day and express thanks. Use phrases like, "Can you think of one thing you're grateful for today? It could be a person, an event, or even a small moment that brought you joy."
These conversation starters not only cultivate gratitude but also strengthen the parent-child bond through shared reflections and positive interactions.
Attention! If you are a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or other relation who is providing kinship care for children, then the Connected Caregiver group is for you! The group meets throughout the school year to support each other and learn how to best support the children in your care! Click HERE for more information.
This time of year can be especially challenging and stressful for families. Here are some local organizations that can help.
