Principal's Update
Now, it's much more complicated. Kids can chat on games. Kids chat on messenger. Kids even chat on Google Docs! (Their coordination here is pretty impressive, I think. What do they say? "Meet me on the doc at 2pm on Saturday?")
Here are three thoughts/resources to consider as you parent in the Digital Age:
1) As parents, you own the technology. Parameters are good. Maybe it's "Only in the living room" so you can see/hear what they're doing.
2) I recently joined a Facebook Group called "Parenting in a Tech World" that was recommended to me by one of my former colleagues. There are 310,000 members--it's a wealth of information. If you're on Facebook, it might be worth checking out!
3) I've often recommended https://www.commonsensemedia.org/. It has reviews and recommendations of apps, games, podcasts, movies, etc. It also has age recommendations, which can be helpful when reasoning with kids. It's easier to say, "Sure, when you're 13" than "No."
EHSA Update
Thank you to our amazing Dance Volunteers. It was a rousing success!
At our last meeting, we voted in our new board. Thank you and congratulations to...
President: Jackie Steffes
Vice President: Emily Brossette
Secretary: Melanie Carroll
Treasurer: Abby Peterson
Member at Large: Dan Steffes
We're so grateful for the service of our outing board. Jessica Horning served as our member at large, vice president, president, and treasurer for over 10 years. Diana Billstrom and Mandy Wootton stepped in to lead our EHSA out of the pandemic, focusing more on building community. Bekah Blank joined brought wonderful organization to our meetings and communication. Thank you all, sincerely, from the bottoms of our hearts.
Our last meeting of the school year will be Tuesday, May 2nd from 6-7pm. We will:
1) Hear from our 4th Grade Team
2) Begin planning next year
Interested...even mildly interested...in helping out? Don't be shy. Come. Help enrich your child's elementary experience by making memorable events happen, adding funding to the school, and building relationships with other families and staff. Mark your calendars!
Also, be on the lookout for Sign-up Geniuses to see what you can donate to help make our Staff Appreciation Week (May 8-12) Out of this World!
Raise $ for Our Students by Doing What You'd Normally Do
Many of you shop on Amazon. Did you know that you can earn money for Edgewood's Home and School Association while doing it? You can give more $ to your child's school by doing what you'd do anyway!
1) Go to smile.amazon.com
2) Search for your charity: Edgewood Home and School Association, Inc."
3) This only works from the desktop site, not from the app.
