Principal's Corner
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We have had a great start to the school year. Things are different, but everyone is adjusting well to the changes we have in place. Thank you for allowing us to teach your children face to face and virtually this year. Education has always been a team effort, but this year we need to work together more than ever. I know together we can make this the BEST YEAR EVER!
Your child will take the NWEA Reading and NWEA Math tests this month. Teachers will use this information to help guide their instruction during Face to Face teaching. They will also use this information to create small group meetings during our Virtual Wednesdays. Your child will take these tests on their iPads in their classrooms. Monday, September 14/Tuesday, September 15 the students will take the NWEA Reading Test. Monday, September 21/Tuesday, September 22 the students will take the NWEA Math Test. Getting a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast is always important on testing days.
I strongly believe in communication between parents, teachers, and principals to ensure the success of every child. I have an open door policy. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My email address is johnsonc@waylandunion.org or you may call the Steeby office at 269-792-2281.
Your partner in education,
Ms. Christina Johnson- Principal
Specials Classes get Creative
Specials look a little different right now. Music, Media, and Art are on a cart! The teachers are going to each classroom to teach their specialty. The students are still having just as much fun while sticking with their cohort. P.E. with Mr. Weber is in the gym or outside with the students safely distancing themselves while having fun!
We are also fitting two specials into each day that students are here. This way students get to have music, media, art, and P.E every week! We love seeing the students in person and are so excited to be back at school!
*Mrs. Bailey* - Music
*Mrs. Barnes* - Media
*Mrs. Spicer* - Art
*Mr. Weber* - P.E.
Physical Education Matters
This sure is a strange time but we are making the most of it in Physical Education at Steeby this year. We are going to be using limited equipment for the first few weeks. My goal is to keep all students safe and healthy and for the students to have a fun time and get some exercise while doing it. Our first week we participated in the shoe Olympics. Ask your child about it! Going forward we will be doing a lot of fitness activities, but in unique ways. Rock, paper, scissors fitness and fitness relays are coming in the next couple weeks. Be sure to stay as active as you can as a family, that will help keep everyone in great spirits and keep you all healthy!
