Austin ISD is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with our 2022 Virtual Talent Show “Proud to be Hispanic. Join the Fiesta!” Participants can win prizes of $250 and $500 for Class Performance. Categories (classes) are singing, music, dancing and art (drawing or painting) that involve Hispanic Culture.

Students can submit their videos or pictures at https://bit.ly/FiestaAISD22 until October 9. Accepted entries are being posted on Facebook (pictures and drawings) and YouTube (videos of Singing, Dance and Music categories).

Voting ends on October 12. More than $4,000 in prizes will be awarded in an in-person ceremony on October 15. Flyer will be attached to today’s PM.

Submissions due 11/7.

The percentage of students receiving free and reduced determines the funding of many programs. It also impacts our campus accountability ratings for Domain 2B: Relative Performance. It is very important that our eligible students get signed up.

Please make note of this assembly. We ask that any family who might need an early pick up on October 11 come before the assembly. Thank you for your cooperation.

We are beginning the gifted and talented identification process at Kiker Elementary School. There is only one nomination window this year for all grades. The process includes several steps: nomination, screening, and selection. Information considered in the decision includes parent/guardian and teacher input, collection of a portfolio of student work, and standardized assessments. The standardized assessments are all online. The GT nomination window will run through October 7 with a firm deadline of 4:00 pm on October 7.

Please note that the nomination process is time sensitive for this fall only.

* K-2 will take the NNAT assessment online

* 3-5 will take the CogAT assessment online

*Kiker will provide Saturday testing. If unable to attend Saturday testing, students will be pulled from class to complete the testing.

About the Hunter 5K

Join us on October 29, 2022 for the fourth annual Hunter 5K Halloween Fun Run!

The Hunter 5K was created to honor and celebrate the fast and free spirit of four-year-old Hunter Henderson, who tragically passed away in December of 2018. Hunter loved Halloween and dressed up in costume throughout the year. Held on Halloween weekend, race participants are strongly encouraged to dress in their most creative Halloween costumes in his memory. The Hunter 5K is the inspiration of Chance Henderson, Hunter’s father. An avid runner, he was moved to create a fun and inclusive event that Hunter would be proud of.

Funds raised from the event benefit the Dell Children’s Medical Center who helped the Henderson family immensely during Hunter’s stay.

This year we are encouraging 4th and 5th grade students to sign up for safety patrol for a two week block of time during the school year. Thank you for being a campus leader!

Students will drop backpack off in the front foyer/vestibule, sign in, grab a vest, and head out front. We need help waving cars to the front of the line, opening doors, and welcoming each child with a warm greeting or sending students off at the end of the day.
