Principal's Message

Dear Parent(s),

Congratulations to Kaylee Leis for placing 2nd in an International Lemonade contest which included all North America and Mexico. Kaylee exemplifies our core values as she has donated a large portion of her earnings to charities, including over 100 Christmas presents to those less fortunate.

School pictures will arrived shortly, unfortunately there was a printing issue which resulted in a delay. The retakes have now been rescheduled for the afternoon of Nov 3rd.

Our Halloween dance will take place on Friday, Oct. 28th from 5-7pm. Tickets are $10 including snacks and drinks and are still on sale.

Panther Gear is still available on our on-line store until Nov. 4th, don't miss out.

L.A. 8 "Cliffhanger" - Original Poems

During the "It's a Mystery" unit in L.A. 8, students studied the poem "Cliffhanger" and then wrote their own original poem. They did a fantastic job recreating the style of the poem which is to be read from the bottom up, the use of descriptive words/phrases to create suspense, and with no punctuation until the . . . at the end. Great work, grade 8s!

L.E.A.D. team

The L.E.A.D. team has decided November 25th will be the day to recognize Movember.Growing out one's facial hair for 30 days is called "Movember" or "No-Shave November," and it's meant to raise awareness for male cancer. It's also a chance for dudes to show off their 'staches, goatees, Fu Manchus, mutton chops and other furry face-warmers. At Pine Grove it will be a contest of fake facial hair. During this month our Wellness classes will spend time looking at the efforts made to support cancer.

Bullying vs. Being Mean

Bullying is defined as follows:

The repeated actions or threats of action directed toward a person by one or more people who have or are perceived to have more power or status than their target in order to cause fear, distress or harm. Bullying can be physical, verbal, psychological or any combination of these three.

It is important to distinguish bullying from other unkind, mean and harmful behavior. Calling someone a name or pushing someone once, being rude or having an argument with someone is not bullying. These behaviors are addressed at the school but may have different consequences and interventions, which is why the distinction is critical. To be defined as bullying, all three components must be present: (1) repeated actions or threats, (2) a power imbalance and (3) intention to cause harm.

Pine Grove B2 girls volleyball, and Pacers A boys and girls volleyball teams all won their games against the Jasper Cougars on Oct. 20th. Congratulations!
