STARTING OFF RIGHT AS A LEADER
SEPT 2018 UPDATE
MISSION STATEMENT
KICKING OFF THE NEW YEAR
1. We don't get to choose who we minister to. There are times when our selfish desires wants things to happen the way we want. We want the perfect combination of youth on our group. We want the ones that behave well and listen to our ever word. We want the past youth because they were the leaders. But that's not the reality of ministry. The youth we have now is our responsibility and is exactly the ones God intends for us to minister to.
2. It is more of a lifestyle than a task. I talk with many of you guys often and say that even if being a pastor wasn't my job, I hope that I would still be investing myself into the lives of students and their families. What we are wrapped up in friends is more than just events and weekends, we're dealing with real lives, real souls, and real eternity. And for many of these students, outside of the church, where else can they turn for worldview instruction and spiritual reality? We have the privilege of challenging and equipping students!
3. The Good News is in Jesus. In the world of youth ministry, we have conceded that there are not enough human resources, gimmicks, games, or giveaways to attract students to the church. It is, and always has been, the pure beauty of the Gospel that will draw and sustain students and that is where we put our hope and effort. This is why we must labor hard, always be ready and trained ourselves, and pour out (like Paul) every single ounce that we can for the sake of the Gospel...and leaders, for our own joy. It is not just students that are changed in the process...it is ourselves that receive the blessing of sanctification through this.
DG LEADERS
1. Please update the 2018-2019 Doc (Directory) with the info from your students
2. Work with your college sponsor or co-leader and set up a schedule to check up on your students and parents.
3. There's a 5th Sunday this month. You could do something with just your group, join with another group, or even challenge them to go serve, join another ss class, etc.
