BOE members receive recognition for years of service
USD 490 Board of Education members Tom Storrer and Norm Wilks received commemorative plaques for their years of service during their last BOE meeting on December 11. Storrer served on the board for 16 years and Wilks served on the board for eight years.
Skelly students begin Panther Productions
Skelly students launched their first episode of Panther Productions on December 5. This program was assembled by the Skelly Street Leaders (student leadership) team. They will be making videos to share information about what is happening in their building and community. Click here to watch the second episode.
The equipment was purchased with a grant written by Mrs. Culbertson and funded by Partners In Education Foundation (PIE). The equipment is the same technology used at El Dorado Middle School for broadcasting purposes, so students will gain valuable experience that will be useful as they transition into middle school.
Quinn Houseman named EHS Heisman Award winner
El Dorado High School senior Quinn Houseman was named the EHS High School Heisman Award winner.
Houseman was also named a Wichita State University Distinguished Scholarship Invitational Semifinalist.

Blackmore brings in live barn owls to wrap up One Book, One school
Blackmore encourages families to participate in a One Book, One School activity each year. This year’s book was Little Owl Rescue by Rachel Delahaye. The main character in the book, Callie, finds herself with a barn owlet that needs help after its mother leaves it behind.
Students who read the book and answered the related questions were rewarded with a special presentation on December 11, thanks to Librarian Luana Lewis and grants from the Partners In Education (PIE) Foundation and South Central Kansas Libraries.

EMS 7th grade girls basketball named League Champs
The El Dorado Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team were named Patriot League Champions at the tournament in Augusta on December 11. They completed their season with a 13-1 record.
The eighth grade girls basketball team placed sixth at the tournament and completed their season with a 1-5 record.
EHS juniors donate over 400 blankets to local children
Three El Dorado High School students led a project as part of Youth Leadership Butler (YLB) 2023 that donated over 400 new blankets to Sunrise Children’s Home in Andover in November.
Koda Emler, Kaylinn Hoover, and Sophia Beggs worked together to come up with the idea for and to organize the blanket drive to benefit local children who have been removed from their homes.

BCC students visit Grandview kindergarten

Blackmore hosted Breakfast with Santa for El Dorado children
Blackmore Elementary hosted Breakfast with Santa on December 2. The event was open to all of the children in the community and offered warm coats, hats, and gloves to attendees. They served hot chocolate and donuts, had an opportunity for free photos with Santa, and had a book fair available for families to purchase new reading material for the winter break.

Blackmore students visit Newman University to view play
Blackmore fourth grade students recently read a story that is also a play put on by a local children's theater. Thanks to a grant from Mrs. Banks' Closet, students had the opportunity to visit Newman University to see the play. Blackmore counselor Dr. Christie Henderson had a role in the play this year, so students were able to see her perform on stage.
