Lower Campus notes
In addition to dress down Thursday this week, students are encouraged to dress out of uniform this Friday, March 17, to celebrate the start of SPRING (we're seeing GREEN!).
Francophone culminating event
The Francophone culminating event for parents/guardians will be held on Monday, March 20, from 1:15pm to 2:15pm in the Village Plaza. Come and see our French classrooms celebrate French culture.
Safety first when driving
Please remember that our campus is located in a residential neighborhood. Drive carefully and CREST-fully (and be mindful of the speed limit) on your way to and from school. Since daylight saving started last weekend, the darker mornings have also reduced visibility. It’s crucial that we keep our community and neighbors safe.
LC Connections
Our students recently celebrated several events, including Exceptional Children’s Week and Black History Month. We are pleased to share some posters that students created, below.
Upper Campus notes
MAP Testing, March 20-31
Upper Campus we will be completing the spring MAP tests during the window of March 20-31. It is very important that your student(s) attend school and get a good night's rest during those two weeks.
Milestones testing dates changed to April 19–28.
Parent Resources for Milestones can be found here.
5th grade field trip to La Casona
The 5th grade Spanish track went on a field trip to La Casona restaurant this week. There, the students learned all about "Bandeja Paisa" and other dishes from Antioquia, a region in Colombia.
MTSS at Upper Campus
As Data/MTSS Coach at Upper Campus, Tina Catinella builds the capacity of GLOBE teachers to consistently deliver instruction through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
“At staff meetings we have looked at how to find reports available for MAP Growth and how to use those reports and the data available to them to create small groups and differentiate,” Ms. Catinella said. “I also led training on formative and summative assessment and had teachers reflect on the data they have from their classroom assessments and how that data can inform their daily instruction.”
That’s not all. Ms. Catinella also does the following:
Meets with grade-level teaching teams bi-weekly to discuss student progress, whether or not interventions are working, and any adjustments that need to be made.
Helps teachers build data literacy and supporting them in data-based decision-making.
Helps teachers master behaviors in GLOBE’s Vision of Teaching Excellence in their Tier I instruction. (Example: A campus-wide training on vocabulary instruction)
“In addition to working with teachers, I am fortunate that I also work closely with students. I co-teach second-period Georgia Studies with Mr. Brantley, and I work with two Response to Intervention groups — one before and one after school,” she said. “These interactions with students allow me a greater perspective in my role and I believe help me be a better coach.
“Coming from Lower Campus, I have loved getting to know Upper Campus and reconnecting with past students. The school spirit is contagious with all the after-school activities/sports and the students truly display CREST in all that they do.”
