Self-Advocacy Tips for Students!
Students’ academic success is our utmost priority, and we want to help you navigate your educational journey effectively. Here are key tips for self-advocacy and better communication with your teachers:
Respectful Advocacy: Always approach issues with respect and professionalism. Teachers are here to support your growth.
Schedule One-on-One Meetings: Don't hesitate to arrange meetings with your teachers to discuss concerns, ask questions, and seek clarity. Come prepared with specific points to address.
Effective Email Communication: Use email for convenient communication. Ensure clarity, brevity, and a respectful tone in your messages. Include a relevant subject line.
Ask for Help: Reach out for assistance when you're facing challenges in your coursework or assignments. Your teachers are here to assist you.
Sharing Concerns: If you have concerns about your grades, assignments, or class policies, communicate them with your teachers. Asking clarifying questions and sharing constructive feedback benefit both students and teachers.
Seeking Support from Administration: If your concerns remain unresolved or need further attention after discussing with your teacher, our administration is here to assist you. We're committed to working alongside your teachers to ensure your success.
Active Engagement: Actively participate in your education. Regular attendance, timely assignment submissions, and engagement with your coursework can significantly enhance your learning experience.
Remember, both the admin team and your teachers are your partners in achieving academic success. We collaborate to support you and address your concerns. Your proactive approach to communication and self-advocacy will make a significant difference in your educational journey.
Your success is our goal and we are here to help you every step of the way.
Sincerely,
CMIT Admin Team

Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month, much like the culture and heritage, was filled with lots of color bringing good energy, smiles, dancing, and appreciation of diversity and inclusion. Though our school staff and students hail from various places in the world and from many places in our nation, though we all speak various languages with a variety of accents, and though we all gather at our building on a daily basis with our unique set of experiences, we can all agree that we look much better together than we do apart.
This month students installed garlands of the 21 Spanish-speaking nations in Latin America to build knowledge and appreciation of the many nations that share a common ancestry. Bracelets of countries of Latin-America were also sold to provide the opportunity to students and staff to display the diverse colors that represent Latin-America. Idioms of the Day in the daily morning announcements helped to introduce the Spanish language to our student body and to the interesting way thoughts and ideas are communicated all over Latin-America.
On October 6th, the nearly 600 students at our school assembled in the school gymnasium to view and participate in a colorful display of dance and celebration. The Cultural Dance Center in Silver Spring, MD presented an exhilarating Afro-Colombian dance that our students thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Leading up to the dance presentation, an educational installation of information on the Carnival of Barranquilla, traditional Colombian masks, and items that represented Colombian life and culture was placed near our media center to prepare students for the sights and sounds they would witness just a few days later.
What an eventful month it has been and what an amazingly inclusive community we have at CMIT North High School!
