Cardinal Pole Summer Term 1 Newsletter
Welcome to the Cardinal Pole Catholic School Good News!
This half term, we have had several successes, such as our TES nomination for 'Secondary School of the Year' and receiving an 'Outstanding' rating in our Catholic School Inspectorate (CSI) report. We are thankful to staff, students and our wider community for making this possible; we are proud of the environment we have cultivated here at Cardinal Pole.
Additionally, we have had many events and activities where our students have further developed their skills in public speaking, design and gardening.
As this half term draws to a close, we'd like to appreciate the hard work of our students and staff, especially during exam season. We wish all our students sitting exams this summer good luck!

TES 'Secondary School of the Year' Nomination
This term we received the news that we were nominated in the TES School Awards for 'Secondary School of the Year' category. We celebrated with a lovely cake.
We thank our school community for making this possible and look forward to the awards night in June.
Catholic School Inspectorate Report 2023
We are proud to announce that we have been graded 'Outstanding' in all areas in our recent CSI report.
'There is a distinct Catholic identity in Cardinal Pole which is apparent when you arrive and linked to everything the school does. The new mission statement focused around SOAR (Service, Opportunity, Aspiration, Reward) has recently been introduced and is widely known and applied by pupils and staff. Pupils are well looked after pastorally and they appreciate the care given to them by staff.'

Speak Out Challenge
Following the Jack Petchey in-school workshop, Umar and Betania were chosen to represent Cardinal Pole at the Speak Out Hackney Regional Final at Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy.
They spoke so confidently; we are so proud of them.
Leicester University Taster Day
Our Year 12 students enjoyed tours of the Leicester University campus, hands-on science lab activities, sessions on student life and applications, and the subject taster lectures on topics including:
Can computers add up?
Can torture be justified?
Can law change the world's climate?
Our students made the most of these opportunities and they are looking forward to using what they've learned as they begin working on their university applications.
Book Swap
Our Library was buzzing with our first book swap and sale on Friday and the launch of our newsletter; this was put together by our fantastic Hackney Reading Ambassadors Emily and Siarra in Year 8.
Royal Academy of the Arts Spanish Trip
Our Year 9 and 10 Spanish students visited the Spain and Hispanic World Exhibition at the Royal Academy of the Arts.
They learned about Hispanic art and enjoyed it through some artistic pieces of Goya, Velazquez and many more!
Drama A level
We are very proud of our A-level Drama students for completing their devising component, which consisted of creating an original performance.
One group created a piece titled 'Bound' in the style of Complicite that focused on the Genie Wisely story. Another group created a piece in the style of Frantic Assembly titled 'They All Go Back,' which explored the inequality in how criminals are treated in life after prison.
Year 9 Poetry Workshop
Mr Gee Poet did a few poetry workshops with some of our Year 9 students.
The great work that was created will be put in an anthology and released in school in September.
Well done to all involved!
