The Rainforest
Learn about the adaptations of its plants and animals
Threatened Animals
Because humans are cutting down the trees in the rainforest, many animals are in danger of becoming extinct. Read about the endangered animals below to learn more about their adaptations. Write about each adaptation.
Blue Morpho Butterfly
When other animals try to eat this butterfly, it releases a bad smell. When it flaps its blue wings, the butterfly camouflages and is hard to see.
Golden Tamarin Monkey
They have long, thin fingers that they use to grab insects from holes and small places. They eat anything they can find in the trees including insects, small lizards, frogs or flowers and fruit.
Giant Anteater
These animals have no teeth. Instead they have a loooong sticky tongue that helps them reach insects like ants and termites. This adaptation allows them to eat up to 35,000 insects every day.
LAYERS OF THE RAINFOREST
Each layer of the rainforest is different. The plants and animals in each layer have special adaptations that help them survive in that layer. Read about the layers below, and write about why you think each layer is so different.
