A Message from the Superintendent
Hello Bayshore Community,
Welcome to February! This month is not only a time of reflection and honor for the rich history and contributions of the Black community, but also a jubilant celebration of the Lunar New Year, marking the beginning of a new lunar cycle.
Black History Month:
February marks a special time for us to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Americans throughout history. It is an opportunity to honor the resilience, strength and creativity of individuals who have shaped our society in countless ways. It’s also an opportunity for our students to learn about those who have paved the way for equality and justice, and to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of diversity, empathy and solidarity. The San Mateo County Office of Education has this webpage with additional resources regarding Black History. Be sure to check it out!
Lunar New Year:
In addition to Black History Month, we are also embracing the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year, a time-honored tradition celebrated by many of our families. This celebration, also known as the Spring Festival, signifies new beginnings, good fortune and prosperity. This Year of the Dragon will be one of good luck, justice, prosperity, and strength. May it also bring good health and happiness to you and your loved ones.
As we celebrate Black History Month and Lunar New Year, let us remember the importance of embracing diversity, fostering inclusivity and building bridges of understanding within our community.
Thank you for your ongoing support and participation. Together, we are making a difference.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth Veal, Superintendent
Update from Principal Mrs. McZ
Dear Bayshore Families,
As we step into the second month of the year, our school community continues to thrive with excitement and learning. Here's what's happening at Bayshore in February:
February is Black History Month, a time to honor the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout history. Our classes are celebrating with a variety of art projects and stories that highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion. Thank you to the young ladies who write the morning announcements to celebrate Black History Month with their interesting facts each morning.
February is also the time for Lunar New Year celebrations. The pre-K and TK classes celebrated the Lunar New Year and practiced their cutting skills by making Red Lanterns. First graders also celebrated the Year of the Dragon by decorating red lanterns with their 8th-grade buddies.
The middle school students celebrated Valentine’s Day and got to hang out after hours in their school with a fun-filled dance on Friday, February 9. Students enjoyed complimentary popcorn and a variety of snacks from the student council sponsored snack bar. Thank you to Kevin Santos for stepping up and proving to be a really great DJ. I appreciate all the help from the parents, teachers, and staff who volunteered their time to hang out with some really fantastic young people on a Friday night. I also had a great time decorating for the dance, and I couldn’t have done it so well without my 8th-grade helper.
I have also enjoyed watching our Bayshore Dolphin basketball games this season. I love spending time with the Bayshore families and cheering on our talented students. Go Dolphins!

The Advisory Team continues to review data about student performance at school using information from the CA Dashboard and surveys completed in the 2022-23 school year. This is the beginning of the Needs/Assets assessment process and will inform our work as we go along.
