Message From Onondaga Road School Principal
Hello Onondaga Road Families,
What a busy couple of weeks we have had here at school! I have been making my rounds to each classroom so that students can be a part of the morning announcements. This has also provided me with an opportunity to talk to each class individually about the role of a principal and answer any questions that they may have. It is a wonderful way to start my day!
All of the students just finished up Universal Screening in the areas of ELA and Math. This information will help teachers make instructional decisions for students and will help us to monitor their academic growth. Trying to find time to read each night or practice math skills at home is a great way to support your child's learning.
The 3rd grade classes had the Rosamond Gifford Zoo visit each classroom. They brought some very interesting specimens with them for students to observe and guided students through "busting" some common animal myths. Did you know that a porcupine has up to 30,000 quills?
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Michelle Collier

Electronics Policy Reminder
As we return to school in the new year we would like all Wildcat families to review our policy regarding electronic devices. Our elementary policy regarding such devices reads:
"Personally owned electronic games and devices, such as cell phones, CD players, iPods, remote control cars, hand-held video games etc., must be off and away throughout the school day. These items can be lost, stolen, broken and are a distraction. The school cannot and will not be responsible for these items. Please help us by keeping them at home."
Students who violate this policy may be subject to the following disciplinary sequence:
- First Report: The student will receive a warning.
- Second Report: Parents will be notified.
- Third Report: The device will be taken away and a parent/guardian will be required to pick it up.
Please note that all Apple watches or similar devices are allowed but are not to be used for anything other than telling time and must not be a distraction during school hours. These watches or similar devices will follow the same reports above if they are a distraction and/or being used inappropriately.
Arrival and Breakfast
For students riding busses to school, they can enter the building at 8:50 a.m. if they are choosing to have breakfast at school that day. For students who are getting dropped off at school, it is important that they arrive to school by 9:00 a.m. This will ensure that students have time to enjoy their breakfast and still be ready to learn in their classrooms by the bell at 9:10 a.m. If students arrive to school after the bell, they will need to have the "to-go" option for breakfast and will take it to their classrooms.
Birthdays
Invitations for birthday parties can be handed out at school if there is an invitation for each student in the class. This is in place so that there are no hurt feelings at school. If you would like to just invite a few students to a birthday party, the office can provide you with a list of addresses and you can mail invitations. We appreciate your support with this policy as it helps to prevent our students from feeling left out.
Brrrr... It's Cold Outside!
The cooler weather is upon us! Remember to send that cold weather clothing! Our students will continue to go outside for recess each day, unless the temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Please be sure to label your child's cold weather clothing. You will be so glad you did because we see lots of duplicates!
