UPDATE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM

On Monday Sept. 12, I presented a presentation to the school board about the after school program. I informed the board that the after school program is actually a program designed for a school that needs intensive remediation for their students. Currently, Miles ISD is rated an A district. Our school does a great job of providing RTI interventions and strategies to ensure our students can be successful in the classroom, therefore, this program is not specifically designed for Miles.

I drafted a letter to TEA today requesting Miles ISD's withdrawal from the After School Program Grant. Attached at the bottom of this page will be a one page summary of what the grant looks like in simple terms.

Nothing is finalized as of today. I simply made a request to withdraw and we are waiting to hear from TEA.

Miles ISD will continue to run the program until the end of September to give parents time to find adequate after school care for their children. Our last day will be Sept. 28 due to a Family Engagement on Sept. 29.

Once I hear from TEA, I will inform all parents, students, faculty and community members of their decision.
