Message to families
Mariner Family,
As we move forward and strengthen our culture at our beautiful school, we will continue to work with our students and focus on how we build student community together, how we belong with one another, and interact with one another. The word “with” is important as It is important to listen to our students, our parents, and each other, as we raise our students up. Students can learn to take ownership of who they are as learners, who they are as leaders, who they are when they enter this campus each morning, who they are as they leave this campus each day, and who they are aspiring to become.
It is also important each day to circle up at the beginning of the day and think about what they want to contribute as a learner and as a leader each day. It is important for them to also circle up at the end of each day and speak to what they did today to reach their goal. Every student should leave with a sense of accomplishment. Even if they did not have a perfect day, they should also be reminded of what they did well. Every student should finish their day at school and at home with a sense of accomplishment and hope. Students are on the road to who they will become. It is our job as educators and parents to help them build a strong foundation and realize their potential to take a positive ownership approach to who they will become.
Continue to develop strong relationships with your child/children, with your teacher(s), and with our staff. Building relationships with each and every adult who can contribute to a child’s success is a key factor in serving each student well. Building community is accomplished by developing relationships, communicating with each other on a regular basis and this will help us to continue to build bridges of success for each child. IHCS is an amazing place to be. It is a blessing to serve our wonderful community with you each and every day.
Sincerely,
Mr. Candelaria, Principal at Innovative Horizons Charter School

Welcome back to a new year! Each new year brings a fresh new start! That includes P.E. This year we are attempting to bring the 100 Mile Club back in a fresh, new way. Stay tuned for more information. Meanwhile, as we look at a new year and how families can support their students at home, we always like to start the year looking at nutrition. Nutrition is the best way to help at home. Nutrition means eating the right foods to grow and stay healthy. We review the 5 Food Groups grades K-5. See if your student can name all 5 food groups. See if you are getting all the food groups at home. Also, making sure each student eats breakfast also helps their bodies and brains be ready to learn. Use Choose My Plate (https://www.myplate.gov/) for more resources.
