The BIS Bulletin
Blair Oaks Intermediate Weekly Newsletter - July 2022
A New Year, A Fresh Start
The BIS Bulletin is a digital newsletter that will be sent out weekly to keep you informed of the events in and around school. Information will also be updated regularly on our school website. While this is one way to keep you informed, please know that communication works best when it goes both ways, and you are welcome and encouraged to contact me at any time. This is your school, too!
Registration Dates
This event is for those who are new to the district. The Intermediate office will be open from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00p.m. to greet new students and their families. Enrollment paperwork can be found on the website. There is also a list of documents that must be provided to register.
Returning Student Registration - Monday, August 8th & Wednesday, August 10th
Students who will be returning to Blair Oaks should attend on EITHER of the dates listed above anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to complete re-enrollment paperwork. The nurse/nurse's aide will also be available during this time if you have any questions, forms to complete, or medications to drop off.
NOTE: BES, BIS, and BMS will all have returning student registration on the same day/time.
Meet the Teacher Night
Be sure to sign up using the link below. Included in the sign-up are grades PK-5 so parents with students in both BES and BIS can coordinate sign-up times.
Meet the Paraprofessionals
This year, we are organizing a Paraprofessional Meet and Greet for our families of students with special needs who have a personal para during the school day. Letters were mailed to those with personal para support with more information regarding the meet and greet.

About the Principal - Mrs. Burns
While I've been in Missouri for quite a while, I am originally from Chicago (don't worry, I have been converted to a Chiefs fan!) I try to go back often to visit my family but am always grateful upon return to be part of a smaller community where I can get to know students, teachers, and families on a personal level.
My husband, Daniel, is a middle school teacher and coaches football and girls basketball. Together, we have 3 children, Karsyn (11), Eli (4), and Maya (6 months). We love spending time with friends/family, doing anything outside, playing/watching sports, and traveling/experiencing new things.
When I met with classes at the end of last year, I told students I would have to add a couple hundred other names to that list because they were now part of my family, my Falcon family. We at BIS will hold true to that and work to provide the academic and social experience we would want for our own children.
Meal Payments
Parents will receive information regarding directions on how to check their child's meal transactions on PowerSchool at registration.
2022-2023 Meal Prices:
Prices (daily):
- Full price student lunch $2.10
- Full priced breakfast $1.50

Home & School (Come Join!)
All parents (grades K-5) are welcome to join Home & School! This is our version of a PTA and provides an opportunity for parents to become involved with the school by taking leadership in planning yearly teacher appreciation incentives, extra-curricular events, and support for students and teachers.
Please see more information in weekly online newsletters if you’re interested in joining. Meetings are held monthly. Be sure to “like” us on Facebook at Blair Oaks Elementary Home & School to stay up to date with information.
Meetings will be listed on the weekly newsletter and will typically be held on the second Tuesday of each month at Blair Oaks Elementary cafeteria.
