Mighty Mustangs

We are excited to add Parade of Books to the calendar on Thursday, Oct. 31st. at 1:30.

Each class will think of a book that they would like to share for the parade. Dressing up as the characters or portraying the book in some way is encouraged. The students will create their costumes together as a class. Please do not send students in the 1st through 5th grade in costume unless requested to by the teacher as part of their book parade.

We will hold a lockdown drill next week, on Thursday, October 17th. We will hold this drill during class time at an unannounced time, in order to practice how to respond without warning. We will be practicing a Priority 1 lockdown. Priority 1 means top priority, or most serious. This is the level we would call if there were an immediate threat on campus. During a Priority 1 lockdown, blinds must be down, lights turned off, everyone silent and seated out of eyesight of a window, if possible, and have the window in the door covered. Over the intercom, we will announce, "Priority 1 lockdown." We choose not to use a code-word so that any subs on campus will be aware that a lockdown is what is being called for over the P.A. system. You may want to talk about this with your child ahead of time if you feel they might worry or be afraid. Emphasize that this is just a time to calmly practice and there is no need for worry.

I wanted to inform you that Friday, October 11th, is Vision Screening Day!

All K, 2, & 5 classes will be called to be screened. In addition, SDC classes and referred students will also be screened.

If your child wears glasses, please remind them to wear them to the screening on Friday.

Parkview is proud to announce our first (at least in a long time) student leadership group! The group is comprised of fourth and fifth graders who applied and went through an interview process to be selected for the group. The intent was to select a representative from each fourth and fifth grade class. Our California Healthy Kids Survey results over the past few years have shown low ratings in how involved students feel in decision making at school. Our hope is that this new group will give our students a voice in their school community.

Friday, October 25th is Parkview's Family Science Night from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Our Science Night committee and ASES team are working to plan many fun interactive tables and stations. Our theme is Spooky Science! We will have a taquero and a green screen to take fun pictures! The event is free. We hope to see all of you there!
