Theatre to Present "Is He Dead?" April 20-22
Join us this week as the ASU-Beebe Theatre Department will present “Is He Dead?” on April 20-22 in the Owen Center theater on the Beebe campus.
The show is open to the public with free admission.
Show times will be:
Thursday, April 20 at 7 p.m.
Friday, April 21 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“Is He Dead?” is under the direction of Ryan Gibbons, assistant professor of communication and theatre, Hope Hargrove, instructor of theatre and communication instructor and Jason McCoy, theatre production assistant.
"At times thoughtful, at times challenging, and always humorous, “Is He Dead?” is a great show for all ages, and we hope you will come and join us,” said Gibbons.
Doors will open 30 minutes before each showtime. The theater is located at 1101 W. College Street.

Lecture-Concert Series Presents Big John Miller Band
The Arkansas State University-Beebe 2022-2023 Lecture-Concert Series will present the Big John Miller Band in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, at the Heber Springs Performing Arts Center, located at 1100 West Pine Street. The concert is free admission and open to the public.
Best known for their hard-hitting live performances, the Big John Miller Band delivers an electrifying mix of soul, jazz, blues, funk and rock. Based in Little Rock, the band has been playing for more than 20 years at venues ranging from weddings to festivals.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Heber Springs school district in bringing great performances like the Big John Miller Band to the community,” said Andrea Cole, development officer/major gifts and co-chair of the Lecture-Concert Series.

Several Participate in Arkansas Center for Research in Economics
Several students and a faculty member recently participated in the spring colloquium of the Arkansas Center for Research in Economics (ACRE) held March 31-April 2 at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Morrilton.
Participating students Cyndy Rios, John-Paul Henderson and Samantha Oliver were selected by both ASU-Beebe faculty members and ACRE staff, based on their academic excellence and interests in history, politics and economics. Dr. Blake Perkins, associate vice chancellor for academics at ASU-Beebe, joined the students at the event.

Student Receives TRIO Hall of Fame Achievement
Nathan Surles, a student on the ASU-Beebe Heber Springs campus, received the TRIO Student Support Services Hall of Fame Achiever recognition for 2022-2023.
Surles is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the Ecology Club, Baptist Collegiate Ministry, (BCM), and serves as a tutor for the Heber Springs learning center. He is an active participant in the TRIO Student Support Services program on the Heber Springs campus and provides leadership and positive motivation to students and staff.
In addition, Surles was spotlighted in the Arkansas Association of Student Assistant Programs booklet given to the Arkansas representatives in Washington, D.C. this past March.
This summer, Surles will work in the Upward Bound program as a resident aid and mentor at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Surles plans to pursue a degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.
Phi Theta Kappa Inducts New Members
Last week, ASU-Beebe Phi Theta Kappa honor society members were inducted during a ceremony held at the Dr. Eugene McKay Student Center.
Faculty co-chairs Eddie Supratman and Meredith Gordon welcomed those in attendance and invited PTK officers Sierra Miller and Steven Winchell to the stage to announce highlights from the last year. Dr. Jennifer Methvin, ASU-Beebe chancellor, presented the certificates to the new members. Dr. Methvin also congratulated the PTK on reaching the highest five-star level during their first year. In the Oklahoma/Arkansas PTK regional division, the chapter is one of seven PTK chapters out of 41 chapters with the five-star level accomplishment.
Others in attendance were Dr. Jason Goodner, vice chancellor for academics, Dr. David Mayes, vice chancellor for student services, Teddy Davis, dean of arts and humanities, and Zackery Tucker, dean of students.
