G W Harby Junior High - January 19th, 2024
The grading period ends Friday, January 26
This school year is flying by! We are already coming to the end of the first 3 week grading period for this nine weeks. Please check your student's grades in Skyward and encourage them to get any missing work turned in. The tutorial schedule is linked on the website if your student needs help from their teachers. The tutorial schedule is also linked below.
Alvin High School Elective Fair Visit
On Wednesday, Alvin High School brought the Elective Fair to Harby to show our 8th graders what opportunities they would have as a high school student. Our students were able to have conversations with the teachers of electives, see products or classroom resources, and speak with current students in those electives. One of the best parts was that all the current high school students were former Harby Hawks!
2nd Semester Safety drills coming soon
As we move into the second semester, we will be practicing some safety drills to reinforce procedures with students. We will be practicing a "Fire Drill" and a "Lock Down" drill within the next two weeks. We will send communication the day of the drill to inform stakeholders.
Earlier this week, the campus needed to conduct a "Hold." When a Hold drill is called, the expectation is that all students are in their classroom or instructional space, and not in the halls. Once in the classroom, teachers and students are expected to continue with instruction as usual. A Hold drill is used for non-threat, non-campus emergency situations that require students to be held in their classroom for a short time. If you have any questions about the upcoming drills or past drills, please call the main campus number and either the front desk or Mr. Teal can speak with you.
Course Selection for next year
Students will begin the process of selecting next year's courses once we return from the winter break. There is an Elective Fair on January 16th at 5:30 that all 6th & 7th grade students are able to attend if they would like to learn more about a particular elective class.
Here are the dates that course selections will begin by grade level. Students will bring their course selection card home to be signed by a parent or guardian.
