SHES Weekly Update
August 5th, 2022

Updates for the Week of January 30 - February 3, 2023
Dear Shadow Hills Families,
It was a wonderfully kind week at Shadow last week. We loved seeing all the students and staff participating in the various spirit days. We have a couple more students finishing their i-Ready Diagnostic testing this coming week. Your child's teacher will send home their diagnostic window #2 score soon, giving more information about your student's progression this year, areas of strength, and growth.
Looking ahead at the weather this week, it seems like rain only tomorrow, Monday. If it rains at morning drop-off, please have your student head straight to the auditorium. If it rains at dismissal, all students will be waiting under the overhang in front of the office and library. If you're in your car, a staff member will come up to you and ask your child's name and grade, the information will get relayed down, and your child will head up to you. Please be hyperaware of your surroundings while driving in and around campus. Thank you for helping keep our community safe!
We also have Lunch on the Lawn Friday. There will be a checkout system if you take your child home after lunch by the entrance to the school. A staff member will be at the gate to help.
I'm looking forward to another fantastic week at Shadow. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Meris

Character Education - Kindness
Here at school, we have been very busy learning about kindness - what it means, and how we can practice it! Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help you child continue to learn about the theme of kindness through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! We have really enjoyed exploring this topic at school, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much!
Reading About It
Here are some books to help you learn more kindness:
Practice It!
Spend time writing encouraging notes to people in your community. This could be neighbors, policeman, teachers, nursing home residents, firefighters, anyone! Have your child go with you to deliver your notes of kindness!
Talk About It!
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about courage with your child:
- Tell me about a time when someone was kind to you. How did it make you feel?
- What do you think kindness means and why is it important?
- Who is someone in your class you can be kind to?
- What are ways you can be kind to people at home, at school and in the community?

Please review and save this handbook for reference throughout the year.
Water Bottles
- Water bottles - It is extremely important that your child brings a water bottle to school DAILY. We do have multiple water bottling filling stations on-site to refill their bottles.
