One of our students recently designed the bookmark above and I absolutely LOVE it - both the message and likeness of the drawing are awesome! I believe that a love of reading is critical to success in this world (while also bringing great personal joy) and I hope that I can inspire and support our students to make reading a daily part of their life.

Thank you for partnering with us in your children's education. Any time that you can spend at home reading with and to your children makes a remarkable difference!

Congratulations to Harper Pennington for receiving the "Service Above Self" award and to Lily Brown for receiving the "Outstanding Scholar" award at the Rotary Club's annual awards presentation this past Wednesday. Harper and Lily are amazing students and we're proud that they were honored with such prestigious awards.

The work with assigning students for next year's classes will soon begin. Your child's current teacher will work with their grade level team to create balanced classes for next year that will maximize the learning potential of all students based on several factors which include:

• class size
• gender
• academic levels
• behavioral factors
• student support needs
• social needs, etc.

We hope that our parents and guardians have full trust in our staff who have gotten to know our students so deeply. That being said, as a parent, you have unique insights into your child which may be helpful to share as we work through the class placement process.

Please note that we do not accept specific teacher requests but greatly value any information that you would like to share that you feel will help maximize your child's full potential.

This is the last week for your child to sign up for the talent show. Recorded acts must be submitted by May 1st. If your child is interested, please contact our amazing Talent Show Coordinator, Brittney Granillo, at Bernardotalentshow2023@gmail.com.

Our 4th grade students are continuing to collect supplies to benefit the San Diego Human Society. We're asking families to consider donating any of the following items by bringing them to your child's classroom or the front office. Thank you for supporting such a great cause!

• Blankets
• Beds
• Towels
• Treats
• Paper Towels
• Leashes
• Collars
• Leashes
• Cat and dog toys
• Or any items from the Humane Society Amazon Wishlist

Our State testing window for 3rd-5th grade students starts this Tuesday and will run through May 10. To help your child do his/her be as prepared as possible for the assessments, please be sure that they get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive on time with their iPads fully charged. Also, please remind them just how awesome they are and that we simply want them to do their very best.

Our PTA is excited to invite our families to come and get your boogie on at a Glow Dance! We're hoping that parents will consider volunteering to help, even if it's just for a small portion of the evening. Please Click Here or on the flyer below to access a volunteer sign-up list.

We are excited to honor our amazing teachers and support staff members during the week of May 8-12. See the flyer below for some fun ways that our PTA will be encouraging our staff that week. They are seeking some volunteers to help make the week special so please Click Here if you can sign up to provide some support.

Please feel free to express your gratitude any way that you see fit. While some parents choose to show their appreciation in tangible ways through gifts, acts of appreciation don't necessarily need to cost money. A simple email, letter, or card of appreciation also means a lot!

This year's 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony is in need of 1-2 experienced photographers to help capture the special moments of promotion for our students and families. Photographers would need to be available on Thursday, June 1st from approximately 8:00am-10:00am. A small stipend is available.
